Just out of curiosity do all doujins have covers like that? It was pretty embarrassing to show my mom the game.

Re: Valhellio
This game looks pretty ass :\
There's like 5 bullets onscreen at once in the PV. Maybe the challenge is supposed to be wanking to it while playing, I dunno.
Hope you sell out all your stock though, Rancor.

Re: Valhellio
Yeah - on "normal" mode you can practically play through the game with your eyes closed. Even on "Hard" mode the difficulty doesn't ramp up until the middle of level 3. I've put about an hour into it so far - its no Crimzon Clover, but I still like it.Special World wrote:This game looks pretty ass :\

Re: Valhellio
I'll be the only one interested in it because it's on the easier side.
I have a heavy astigmatism and do poorly at STG games with a lot of bullets that move fast.
Even with my glasses on it's difficult.

Is there any scoring hook to this game?

Re: Valhellio
Pointblanking I think. If your multiplier reaches 200x you go into an overdrive mode that gives you lots of points.. There also might be lockshot that decreases your multiplier but I only have Observer's vid to go by.Avatar Ignis wrote:Is there any scoring hook to this game?
Small rant here; So many Doujin devs try to copy Ketsui's system but have no idea that Ketsui isn't really about constantly pointblanking. Like take EX Extra or Odd Mobs Arrange Zero - in those games the only point of scoring is constantly trying to get the highest value chips - no cashing in, no multiplier to increase, just bigger chips for more points.

Seems like a pretty good entry-level shmup; I don't think comparisons to Jamestown would be completely off base. Plus Tony's art is a big draw. I think this would make some coin on Steam if there wasn't another Satazius DRM disaster.

Re: Valhellio
I do think comparisons to Jamestown would be completely off-base. Jamestown attracts new players with a nicely thought out 4-player system, and eases them into difficulty. It also has a unique style and storyline that's more attractive to modern gamers. I'm not hugely in love with it, but it's very smart in what it does.Estebang wrote:Seems like a pretty good entry-level shmup; I don't think comparisons to Jamestown would be completely off base. This is kind of just a completely normal bullet hell, only without the bullets.

Rancor would probably be a lot more knowledgeable than me but I'm pretty sure that vid is just set on one of the easy difficulties. I saw some screenshots in the box and manual that have Hard and Ragnarok in the space where Normal is in the vid. No clue if those difficulties are much better though.

Re: Valhellio
As was explained on this thread, the game is unfortunately rather easy even on its hardest difficulty. Didn't stop me from enjoying 'Oto Excellent, though.
Doesn't it have visual novel segments? I guess the shmup part might only be half the focus.

Re: Valhellio
Indeed. It has some rather long VN sections full of bla bla bla. Totally skippable though. I'm actually surprised this wasn't an h-shmup ala that Purple Heart Raiden clone and such.

Yeah, and I'm sure this would be selling much better if it had H-scenes. Though I don't know if Tony draws anything beyond softcore.

Re: Valhellio
So far, i understood this about the scoring:
1.Special attacks and point-blanking make the enemies drop gems, if you use the special attacks on the gems they get bigger, and you can chain 3 attacks. You can't chain more attacks even if you get enough "power" to do it again, and every chained attack is stronger and bigger than the previous one.
2.Once the multiplier is x100 (gems raise the multiplier), you enter BURST MODE, in this mode your options cancel bullets and lasers, and the multiplier gets a x100 increase (not sure about this, but it's always 200+), getting more gems refills the burst mode gauge and it lasts longer.
Now, i'd like to ask if someone has a link of a scoring run in Hard! And if there are any more important things about the scoring

Re: Valhellio
The only difference between normal-hard-ragnarok is more bullets, which means more gems, which means more score.
