Batrider fighter selection/edit question

I'm playing through Batrider again, it's literally been years since I played it on my supergun and I just ran into something which I can't remember. For the fighter edit mode (where you have access to a ton of different Raizing characters, the Battle Garegga fighters, Miyamoto, ect), is there any way to select them one at a time manually without the game just rapidly cycling through/choosing them for you? I swear there was a dipswitch setting that let me do this but maybe I'm mistaken.
