Framemeister or iScan HD+
Framemeister or iScan HD+
Hi all,
I have a CRT for retro gaming. However, at a second location I travel to often, I don't (Samsung LED).
I intend to use a Wii (using emulators in 240p) and XBOX (using emulators in 480p). Both are connected via component. Lastly, I have an N64 which is connected via Monster s-video cables.
I can get a Framemeister for about USD600 or an iScan HD+ + SLG for about USD250 (both with shipping).
What is my best option?

Both are worth their price.
If you want to use the iScan with a SLG3000 you need a VGA connector on your Samsung TV.

Or an additional VGA to HDMI transcoder.
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
Could you recommend one? I'm considering these two models myself as well.
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
Fudoh will undoubtedly have more experience with that side of things. I bought one from the UK and it does the job just fine, however it cost £80 so I don't know if cheaper and/or better options are available.kowski77 wrote:Could you recommend one? I'm considering these two models myself as well.
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
So I'll probably just get the Framemeister which is just a little more expensive when you add up the converter to the iScan HD package. Thanks!
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
I would get the FM but 1 x component input. Really?
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
You can get good manual component switches (like the Hama YUV-Selector AV-760) for under 10€, so it's not that big of a problem.Jaz wrote:I would get the FM but 1 x component input. Really?

Really? Thanks, I just assumed they would be yet another expensive piece of kit.
For those who have tried both, is the FM really that much better than the iScan HD+ and a SLG3000 combined?

I can't seem to find that for under 10€...?blizzz wrote:You can get good manual component switches (like the Hama YUV-Selector AV-760) for under 10€, so it's not that big of a problem.Jaz wrote:I would get the FM but 1 x component input. Really?
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
Search on eBay for "yuv selector". Really common here, current price range is 3-4€ plus shipping.ZellSF wrote:I can't seem to find that for under 10€...?blizzz wrote:You can get good manual component switches (like the Hama YUV-Selector AV-760) for under 10€, so it's not that big of a problem.

Cheapest I can find is 30€ + shipping + me having to pay 17.5€ to customs here

Edit: does it drop out on very bright (white) images on the Wii like almost all the active switches seem to do?
Re: Framemeister or iScan HD+
And I thought 19% customs here was bad o_OZellSF wrote:Cheapest I can find is 30€ + shipping + me having to pay 17.5€ to customs here

Nope, Wii works perfectly. It's just a passive selector, it doesn't do anything to the signal.

Yeah, I thought that was a stupid question, thanks for answering it anywayblizzz wrote:And I thought 19% customs here was bad o_OZellSF wrote:Cheapest I can find is 30€ + shipping + me having to pay 17.5€ to customs here

FYI: in Norway if the item is over 200 NOK (about 25€) we pay 25% of it's value + a 15€ processing fee. If the item is over 1000 NOK we pay a 30€ processing fee.
