What's the best NES clone?...

Post by dave4shmups »

In terms of reliability and compatibility. I'm looking at the FC Mobile, FC Mobile II, Retron, and Retron 3. Although there are others. I don't care if it plays anything other then NES games.

They all suck - graphic wise they have issues, some games don't play and their controllers feel like crap. A refurbished original NES will give you the best graphics, an av modes top loader would be the most reliable.

Purportedly the earliest clones (i.e. the Dendy and such) had straight copies of the original chipset and performed much closer to the real thing. Then the single-chip clones came out and the rest is history. Any clone you buy today or in the past 15+ years will be Famichip-based and suffer from all of it's known issues.
