It's funny how I got to the last boss with no focus on Ketsui Arrange 1.5 just to be raped by the Ura 5th stage boss...

At least MB's OST isn't like, half remixes of the same music heard in the game. That's just laziness.

Picked up Jamestown on the Steam sale today. Going to give it a go and see if it's any good.

God that voice annoys me. I'll take a normal warning siren and non-vocalised music over Darius Gaiden any day. Also I thought Metal Black's graphics were done somewhat better in a few areas but then Taito's a bit weird like that.

Am I alone in this?

Metal Black - boring, cheap-ass game with overrated music
Darius Gaiden - awesome, great-ass game with underrated music

ok, I'll stop now

I'd personally modify that to two awesome great-ass games with underrated music. But I have my biases!

It's hard to rag on Darius Gaiden's score. When I first popped that into my Saturn a year ago, when those weird warbling voices hit me I knew its music was going to kick ass. That siren sound too! It's beautiful... OOOOWAAAAHOOOOOOO OOOOWAAAAHOOOO

----
----

To bring this back on topic I mention it because I just did a run of Darius Gaiden to see where I stood with the game (better than I thought, but with a lot of obvious improvement to go). I can get to any final boss, if I'm playing my cards right (and I don't fuck up at Neon Light Illusion - my number one nemesis in this game), without dying. It's tricky. However, once i'm at any final boss, it's usually bomb-spam until I lose my credit. ;_;
Still, it's such a good game. Still love it after all this time.

I'll probably load up Metal Black in mame just to get refreshed with it as well!

1-All in DOJ without deaths until de 5th stage and 3 extra lives at the end... man, finally, my first decent 1-ALL on this game, so much nostalgia.

Raiden [MAME].

Still trying to break in my US Virtua Stick, so I played 2 credits of Raiden. Those were some short as hell credits.
This also might be my first time playing the original Raiden IIRC, it's been so long that I can't remember if I have!

Got a copy of the WONDERPRICE edition of Eschatos. While I'm glad I waited and got it at a discount price, I'm pleasantly suprised by how much I like it. Screenshots don't do it justice. My orignal perception of it was that it was some crappy sub-KOF Skystage thing and I'm glad to be wrong.

I'm playing Under Defeat for the first time on NullDC.

I'd like to pick up a Dreamcast copy, but I don't think that'd help out G.Rev all that much... ;_;
I got to level three after a few tries. The problem with the emulator is that the explosions are all blocky and look really out of place, so that's a little distracting. Can't complain too much though.

It's pretty darn fun, and the music is ace. Plus it's got cute anime girls in military uniforms so what's not to lik- UH I MEAN

UM

SHOOTIN' GAMES

I'd really like to get myself the G.Rev games, but I don't have a 360 or PS3 so I'm kind of shit outta luck. I mean I have a Dreamcast and there's a copy of Border Down at a used game store in my area for $80 (is that a good price?), but I WANTS MORE DARN IT.

If it's in good condition than definitely. The cheapest Ebay prices I can find are $150+.

Radiant Silvergun [Saturn].

Tried to boot it with the swap trick because I am too incompetent with doing hardware-related things to install a mod chip [if I could get the ribbon cable out to plug into the chip, I'd change my position on this]. I haven't bought a mod chip yet, but I wanted to check if it'd work.
Also, I never got the swap to work. Damn you Model 2 Saturns!

[and too poor to shell out $100 for a bare RSG disc on eBay]

But, SSF has gotten rather fast, and RSG works on my big laptop with the lowest compatibility settings at a smooth 60fps [for the most part, the thing overheats sometimes so the processor is underclocked to shit, and it chugs for a bit]. Popped that disc in and away I went.

And I effing suck. There's also quite a bit of input lag apparently, it's a while between when I press fire and when a shot comes out. It's not even my controller box either, which doesn't have issues on other games.

Gave up trying to play with the Virtua Stick, it was not made for this, switched back to the Model 1 Saturn pad.

I'll argue that this has been rendered obsolete as anything other than a collector's item by the superior graphics, HUD, online support, and Ikaruga Mode of the XBLA version. Which is also arcade perfect, unlike Ikaruga XBLA.

Action Replay won't let you play back-up cds, it will only break the region lock.

Well, when I get paid I might, MIGHT try and pick it up. Money's a bit tight lately, so it's hard to support this very expensive hobby!

If money's that tight, you could just burn a CD-R of Border Down (assuming you have a model 1 DC). It should play fine with longer loading times.

I have one. But, my copy of RSG is burned because I'm not spending $100 to get one game. I like RSG, but it is not worth that much. It would be worth $50 if I could get a copy at that price though.

Being a Model 2 Saturn, I don't have the little LED to help with the timing for the swap trick. I managed to get it to reach the SEGA screen twice, but it froze both times on my Saturn. And yes, you can do the swap with an Action Replay cart. But I can't get the timing right, and don't feel like trying too much and fucking up my Saturn's drive motor.
If I had known I could have gotten a pre-modded Saturn for pretty cheap [$112, with cables, controllers, and a burned copy of Sonic Xtreme's demo to show that the mod chip works], I would have before I got this one.

Also, if I had a 360, I'd totally get the XBLA version [which also seems to be why the game isn't 300 efiing dollars anymore on eBay].

Woah wait a minute. I thought the XBLA port was 16:9 only, enemy placement issues, missing ending stuff and choppy movement in spots?

I read all that in the Radiant Silvergun XBLA thread which I believe you were around to post in, so have I missed something there about the feedback that contradicts your arcade-perfect claim? If so I might very well grab it.

XBLA version of Ikaruga is pretty screwed at some spots, but for someone like me that isn't any good at it, it gets the job done.

As far as I'm aware, Radiant Silvergun is perfectly fine outside of some missing slowdown. But it's still completely playable for score, especially since our top scorer did it on XBLA as well.

Kiken thought he saw an extremely rare enemy placement shift in RSG XBLA once. That's hardly enough to disqualify it from the Saturn/STV scoreboards.

The play area is the same size.

Cool. That makes me feel a bit more confident about getting it now. Still doesn't fit on 4:3s though does it?
