Although I agree with this (well, the intent behind it anyway since I don't dig chicks), I can understand the appeal of hentai.

Bookstores are filled with novels that have graphic sex scenes. People love reading these. Why? Because sometimes an abstract portrayal of something can evoke emotions better than a more realistic portrayal can.

In real porn, you have real people doing (on anything beyond Cinemax) real sex acts. For money. This can be offputting to some people, and occasionally you can tell that it's a performance by people who might not actually want to be there. This is, for most people, one hell of a mood-killer. Additionally, real sex doesn't always go perfectly. Even in porn, you occasionally see mishaps that should have been left on the cutting room floor. The parts about sex we'd rather forget, so to speak, or don't fully notice because we're too into it (to a much larger degree than we "get into" porn).

On the other hand, "romance" novels and hentai don't suffer from this. Since it's fictional, abstracted sex, more focus can be placed on the general concept of the act rather than the gritty details. Someone won't think "I wonder if she really hates this" because she doesn't. She's fictional. Someone won't think "oh god, I didn't need to see an accidental closeup of that guy's sweaty balls" because it's not going to be animated in the first place (unless, you know, that's the point of the anime). Although real porn is obviously a more real portrayal of sex, abstracted porn can be a more real portrayal of the feelings during sex. All the right stuff is focused on, and all the stuff you try to ignore is ignored.

This is all just a guess, though. I'd rather have real porn (or actual sex) any day.
