From someone who has had every version of the game, including the PCB for several years, I can honestly say the PSX version is by far the best - better than the PCB, which I subsequently sold. It's a lot more fun when it's faster.

I bought the PS1 version last year, great little game. Lots of nice graphical touches in that Irem style (realistic and gritty), but I don't play it with the remixed music, only the original arcade tunes. And from what I've seen, the Saturn version has just the remixed tunes and is very picky when it wants to work.

Playstation version is great.

I can kind of see why they rejigged the stage order, Deep Dark Sea is the definitely the hardest of the the four 'middle' stages. Sunken Ruins is easy once you know what you're doing.

I played through Sub Rebellion not too long ago, and there didn't seem to be any story connection between the games. They have different reasons for Earth flooding. I suppose that doesn't discount U from being a thematic Final Fantasy-type sequel, though.

Anyone having trouble with the US version of In the Hunt on Saturn should try booting the game with the controller in the 2P port, then switching it to the 1P port once you're at the title screen.

It's very frustrating to continuously load the game with no visible effect on performance. Does anyone know why? I'm using an Action Replay 4-in-1 cart in the Saturn, btw
Kaitei Daisensou (In the Hunt) is one of the games (alongside King of Fighters '95 and Ultraman) that is often listed as "will not work" with an Action Replay Cartridge.

As you have already experienced it is more like a "will not reliably work". The only cure is a NTSC-J Saturn. The cheaper solution is to get the NTSC-U/C PS1 version of In the Hunt - provided you have access to the required platform (NTSC-U/C PS1/PS2/PS3).

But is that still the case when you are using a NTSC-U copy of In the Hunt? Because that's what I have - not an import.

If it's just a case of the 4-in-1 cart messing things up, that makes things simpler.

Not sure - but unlike "Metal Slug", "Ïn the Hunt" isn't listed as benefiting from the additional memory so removing the Action Replay cartridge may be a good idea - got to clean those expansion port contacts anyway :) .

Or PSP. ;) Although, like Darius Gaiden, it seems the music track dies somewhere along the conversion process. Unless I'm doin it wrong. Ah well.

PSX version has both Arcade and Playstation game modes. I'm assuming the arcade mode is basically same as the pcb?
