Hola everyone,

I'm a 37 (soon to be 38) year old gamer who can't remember when he played his first SHMUP but is a somewhat avid collector. I've got a Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, and a 360. My collection of games is pretty much SHMUPs and 2d fighters. I once had quite a collection of DC SHMUPs but sold most of them when I encountered money problems. I was ok with selling them because I had back ups of the ones I did sell. The only ones I still have are Underdefeat, Radirgy, Chaos Field, Bangai - O (all still unopened cause I have yet to get to them), and Gigawing. I once owned Ikaruga,... I gotta go. I've got an itch to play a SHMUP. Cya

Hello, my name is Esupanitix. I am also known as Ace and Esu. I'm often quite stuffy and very grammar-intensive, going as far as to yell at someone for misspelling "millennium". I have a bunch of little pet peeves that only come up when I notice what's there (I.E. I never remember my pet peeves).

I've been playing Touhou for three years, starting on Cirno Day of 2009 and the Sega Dreamcast's tenth (Or eleventh?) anniversary, not playing EoSD or PoFV much until when I got my new computer in 2011, and I own a copy of MushihimeSama Futari but play it once in a blue moon because the 360's D-Pad sucks imo.

As far as Touhou goes, I've beaten two games on Lunatic, don't even try to play SoEW because I hate it, cleared PoFV Normal with Reimu and MS on Normal, beaten LLS, EoSD, PCB, SA, UFO, and TD on Hard, and the two games I've beaten on Lunatic are IN and MoF, and IN I've only cleared FinalA on Lunatic.

I've beaten all but the PC-98 games and TD when it comes to Extra, and I've done a 748-or-so million scorerun of MoF Extra.

I've broken 2 billion on IN Easy, cleared IN and TD Easy at 120FPS, cleared IN Normal at 90FPS, and at this time I still attempt getting to Murasa in UFO Lunatic.

Now more about me.

I've got a good bullet reading ability, I prefer fast bullets over dense bullets, I think ZUN doesn't draw half bad, my birthday is July 10th and I'm 14, and since I was raised around adults 95% of the time, I often have an excessive vocabulary. I'm a 90%+ student and often get top marks. My favorite subject in primary classes is Algebra, secondary/encore is Music (Specifically Choir, which replaced my Study Hall last year), I am attempting to learn Casket of Stars on the piano and sucking horribly.

Last year, on the district assessment, I got a perfect score in the Algebra section.

Yes this may sound like I'm bragging but I'm talking about my accomplishments as well as myself, since those are interlaced.

I have a heavy stutter but my voice is often clear. I have slight anger issues, which is an oxymoron considering that I play virtually nothing but Touhou.

When I play something besides Touhou, it's likely Pokemon, The World Ends With You, a BIT.TRIP game, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Terraria, The Binding of Isaac, Spelunky, Rock of Ages (Not the fucking movie), Yugioh (Card game or video game, either way works), something by Square Enix, something by Atlus, something by CAVE (Although since the 360 Dpad is shit to me, I rarely ever play it), or Minecraft.

I try to make music using FL Studio but I'm not the best at it.

I run a Windows 7 and sometimes wish I had a Mac due to how often Camtasia Studio makes Windows 7 BSoD (If I can remember, 26 times).

I think that's all.

Oh yeah, there's also the fact that I can be a dick at times but I never really mean to be. Sorry.

I'm very active on Maidens of the Kaleidoscope and I have a YouTube Channel where I've done Let's Plays of various Touhou games and I plan to start an EarthBound Zero Let's Play sometime this summer. I don't think I'm too good at Let's Playing and honestly I prefer rambling on and on than having gaps of random silence. I USED TO SING, but I decided to stop on the pretense of not wanting to become the American Raocow.

Hello

I am one of those people who got into shmups after playing Touhou. I've lurked the forum for a while, and I have only recently decided to start posting. I've played Touhou, Cave games, a few Psikyo games, and not much else. I'm pretty sure that I am bad at older shooters and horizontal shooters.

Not as big an oxymoron as your preference to speedy bullets, but you'll eventually be able to move on from Touhou once you find shmups better suited for you.
On an unrelated note, Toaplan, Seibu and Psikyo games are really cool!!

raocow is an awesome LPer, being an American counterpart to him wouldn't be a bad thing at all IMO...

You never know until you try. And either way, they're still good experience so don't sweat the 1cc. Anyways, welcome and enjoy your stay!

This is baffling given your gaming experience and stated preferences. Based on the games you've mentioned you've never seen a fast bullet.

All that aside, if fast is what you want then you need to get busy with a Raiden Fighters game.

Hi guys! I'm newly into shmups, mainly due to a re-introduction by blackoak, whom I've known for years. We played through Jamestown at a party and I really enjoyed it. At another soiree, he suggested that I try espgaluda. 10,000 yen or so later, I'm hooked. I'm enjoying the progression enough that I'll probably focus on it until I can 1cc it. Who knows how long that will take.

Welcome, you could have bought the 360 port of Espgaluda and more with 10,000 yen if you hadn't stayed at the machine.

On another note, anyone have a keyboard optimized for the Xbox 360 that they could send to me? kthx

The joke is that the 360 Dpad sucks and unless you have something like a good arcade stick or Zengeku's controller, it's barely if at all worth playing on the 360 compared to emulation. I.E. if it weren't for that Cease and Desist towards the driver, I would agree fully.

The game or the capitalization? I've been used to capitalizing it like that. I know I'm not supposed to but I still do it, just like how I drink six cans of Barq's a day even though I should really stick to one can a week as people say

Oh yeah that's right Esu. This forum is quite fond of it's members posting images rather than actually posting what they want to say and then they expect us to figure out what they mean.

Calling people things is also something many seem to be fond of so you better be ready for that.

You are new here so so you haven't experienced a lot of it yet and therefore doesn't know it yet. Seriously, I don't believe that the impolite behavior of some people here is simply the result of poor wording or whatever. It's more a case of moderation being much less strict than on places like MoTK.

Nasirosuchus.

My first shmup was definitely back in the early 90's. It was most likely Gradius. I didn't really play them that seriously through the 90's as during that era I was more into platformers, action adventure, and sports games. In the late 90's and into the early - late 2000's I was really into fighting games while still playing the newer platformers, action, RPG's, and third-person shooter games (God Of War, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Warhawk, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc). I got into shmups again around 2006. It was then that I first came across danmaku's or bullet hells, and this inspired me to try out some of Cave's games like Dodonpachi and Espgaluda. I amassed a large collection of shmups from then until the present and got really into MAME and emulation to play many of the older titles. Shmups became a regular fixture in my gaming activities, but I still wasn't that serious about them. It wasn't until after retiring from fighting games and not being as into the current generation of consoles that shmups became my genre of choice with old school platfomers, adventure games, and puzzle games taking up the rest of my time. I logged my 1st 1CC last March (Perfect Cherry Blossom). I must say that I've come a long way. I remember a few years ago struggling just to get past the 3rd level of most shmups without dying, but now, I feel much more at ease and I'm having a lot more fun. Just got the 1CC for In The Hunt two days ago which took over 2 months of play between work, partying, etc. So far, that's my greatest shmup achievement, but there's a lot more out there..........

Err... Hello. Mullenkedheim here... I'm from Brazil, male, and though I'm noob at shmups, I still love them.

Normally I play in PC (emulators) and in my PS2... Hopefully I will get an Xbox 360 later this year.

And... I'm not into harsh talks, so probably you guys won't see me talking like a pro in many topics, like most of you guys talk. So, please, have mercy at me... ^__^

Yes, I know. I'm a noob shmupper. Very noob...
But at least I don't need to be an immediate pro in bullet hells just to prove that I love them.

Hi all!

I'm ExedExes, named after the semi-obscure 1985 Capcom shmup.

I came here for this years STGT after hearing about it from my forum compatriots over at racketboy.com. We've been doing a "Shmup of the Month" there this year that has been quite successful!

My specialty is older-style shmups from arcades and consoles dating up to about 2000. Still trying to get into (and understand) the mechanics behind the bullet-hell types! My fellow forum dwellers from Racketboy have been teaching me well, and a few weeks ago I got Ikaruga for the Gamecube and I've been failing my way through that quite miserably

My best games as of this period of time would go to ExedExes of course, and also Axelay on the Super NES. I consider myself to be highly knowledgeable on the wide range of shmups the SNES has to offer, enjoying some of the more earlier and infamous titles that console has to offer.

I can't wait to learn and possibly impart some wisdom with everyone here, and perhaps post some decent scores on many games here!

Hello everyone!

I recently discovered shmups due to playing Sine Mora and it was more enjoyable than anything I've played this year (besides fighting games). So I'm still very new to this genre but in the last couple of days I've done a lot of 'research' on the genre and which games are generally considered must plays, aswell as watching gameplay videos to see what interests me. I've taken a liking to Radiant Silvergun (SSF, though I may buy a copy soon, I like collecting) and bought various Cave shmups on IOS.

From what I've read the xbox360 is the console to own for modern (read: Cave, lol) shmups but I don't have the money to spend on s jap 360 + game right now so for now I'm focussing on Saturn and Dreamcast. I do have a question though regarding highscores: I noticed in Radiant silvergun that even though I beat the default highscore for the first stage in saturn mode after running out of credits, I don't get to enter any highscores at all? How does that work? Probably a stupendous question, heh.

Anyway, I can't wait to delve deeper into the mentioned games and others. This genre is such a pure one, no shenanigans, no 30 minute cutscenes, just you and a ship!

:)

In the shmups world, high scores and clears are generally only considered valid if you use no continues. Continuing often disables score entry and/or resets your score. Single credit is a rule for the high score threads here as well.

Ah, makes sense. Well in that case I doubt I will get a decent score on RSG anytime soon, since concentrating on both surviving and the complex scoring mechanisms in the game require a little more skill than I can handle haha! I bought a bunch of Cave ios games earlier and scoring and surviving is a lot more...natural I suppose. Atleast in Mushihimesama original mode anyway.

Hello all.

I recently discovered the genre (Just this January) through the Gundemonium Collection (Recollection and Hitogata Happa in particular), and completely fell in love with them. I've been lurking around for a few months, and found a lot of interesting threads and members, so I hope I'll be able to contribute some myself. As a collector by heart, this is probably the least healthy new obsession for me, but easily one of the most satisfying. Currently I'm mainly playing Mushihimesama Futari, Mars Matrix, and Progear; all of them are absolutely blissful.

I'm from the Western Slope area in Colorado - does anybody know of any good nearby locations?

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

I've been lurking around the shmups forum for a while, so I figured it's about time I introduced myself.

I've been a fan of shmups and classic arcade games for most of my life. I've always appreciated the combination of simplicity and depth offered by the games. I took a hiatus from gaming from about 1995-2002, and it was primarily shmups that brought me back into gaming.

I don't have any particular allegiances to specific developers, as I think they have all made both great and not-so-great games. I spend most of my gaming time (which is harder and harder to come by) playing on one of my arcade machines. I have an Astro City with a horizontal monitor that is currently running a Neo Geo 1 slot, Dreamcast, Saturn, Deathsmiles, Marvel vs. Capcom, Progear, Mars Matrix, Giga Wing, and 2 Sega ST-V boards (for which I have Guardian Force, Radiant Silvergun, Soukyugurentai, Cotton Boomerang, and Virtua Fighter Remix). I also recently acquired an Aero City on here, and its running the iCade 60-in-1, Gunbird, Espgaluda II, Sky Shark, and Shienryu.

In real life I am a musician. In addition to performing and composing, I make a meager living as an adjunct professor. I am also working on my Ph.D. in Musicology.

I have a YouTube channel dedicated to my gaming habits. This has provided a good reason for me to continue gaming despite the fact that I don't have a lot of free time.

I might be interested in hosting a shmupmeet for those in the New York City area if there is interest.

I hope all of you are well!
