CERN Large Hadron Collider Video Games & Films...

Post by ST Dragon »

So, I’ve been reading about the The CERN Large Hadron Collider and all the cool and fearsome things its supposed to reveal and after looking at some cool pictures of it, it strikes me as to how similar it looks to all those sci-fi power generators and cores we see in various FPS video games and films.

So how long will it be until we see the Cern Hadron collider its self appearing in a video game or film causing havoc?!

It's already used its time-bending powers to appear in Kamui as the fifth boss:

I can see it now:
TERRORIST SEEK TO CREATE BLACK HOLE AND DESTROY AMERICA.

It will cater to the scientifically illiterate and have space marines :(

I'd say Half-Life comes pretty close to a LHC disaster scenario.

Speaking of which...

Well that's a pretty dumb plan since all you can get by smashing rocks into smaller rocks is strangelets.

My brother-in-law works there. I'll ask him next time I see him.

Screw the LHC, these are already responsible for everything you see in vidya games (although respect is due to CERN and HTML allowing us to post here, of course). No jet planes without the heavy presses. They're important enough that you're not going to see anybody filming around them, sadly.

Gigaelectronvolt measurements are nice, but it doesn't have the visceral force of facing down a machine that can squeeze a rocket out of a tube, or mold titanium with 50,000 tons of pressure.

Incidentally, we (in the US) had a program to set up our own accelerator that would've dwarfed the LHC's collision energy - 40 TeV compared to the LHC's 17 TeV. But why spend on big science when you can keep people in jail instead?

A section of the SSC's tunnel being dug before the project's 1993 cancellation can be seen here, and definitely looks like something out of Battle Garegga or maybe Air Duel. Keep an eye out for Goblingans too. Naturally, the site is being touted as a possible data center.

That was an anti-miracle created by the universe so it wouldn't turn into strangelet soup.

Also there is only one (1) electron in the entire universe. It just teleports to where it needs to be, when it needs to be there. Like a multi-plexing sprite on the Atari 2600. But a little faster.

You could also say - there is only one description of an electron in the entire universe, as separate from our histories of the different electrons thought to have been encountered. But whatever it is, it obviously has no objective existence outside of its description 8)

IIRC there was a rather lame Carmageddon-style racing game named Armageddon Riders (Clutch in the US version) which storyline revolves around experiments with LHC gone amok and turns the population into....zombies.

I'm not sure whats more funny, the excuse or that he escaped custody without a trace..lmao

Mr Cole was seized by Swiss police after CERN security guards spotted him rooting around in bins. He explained that he was looking for fuel for his 'time machine power unit', a device that resembled a kitchen blender.

Police said Mr Cole, who was wearing a bow tie and rather too much tweed for his age, would not reveal his country of origin. "Countries do not exist where I am from. The discovery of the Higgs boson led to limitless power, the elimination of poverty and Kit-Kats for everyone. It is a communist chocolate hellhole and I'm here to stop it ever happening."

Mr Cole was taken to a secure mental health facility in Geneva but later disappeared from his cell. Police are baffled, but not that bothered.

Cool! Its been some time since I played Kamui so I didn't remember that Boss! The resemblance is striking!
However the file name is:

"alltynexsmall9166.jpg"

The Hadron Collider also kind of reminds me of the Sol Feace super computer!

so is there a way to actually play Kamui and Reflex using a USB Joypad? I've updated both with the latest patches respectively, but there seems to be no joypad option like Alltynex 2nd which recognizes them automatically and allows you to assign what ever buttons you want...
Thanks in advance.

Both games have always worked fine for me in WinXP with my USB Saturn pad. Kamui lets you choose betwen preset button configs, can't recall RefleX's options if any.

OK, thanks for that English explanation of the options! I also managed to set my joypad right for Kamui & Reflex and I completed Kamui.
