i need help with a SHMUP

Hello,
there is a certain SHMUP from my childhood which i can't seem to remember the name of..it was a horizontal(side scrolling) shmup..the menu screen was in a semy 3d red font and there was an effect like an explosion when you start the game,the background was space with a planet in the lower left corner i think.. the mouse pointer was a gold arrow slightly tilted to the left(i don't remember if it was spinning) and there were a lot of options in the menu. i also remember that there was a short cutscene after you selected your ship in which it flies through a tunnel and into space.I think it supported mouse only control besides the keyboard.the graphics were sort of like rendered 3d,one enemy which i remember was a spining octagon like thing..
Can anyone identify the game i'm talking about?

I'm assuming that this IS a PC game. What OS did it run on?

i had windows 95 then but i can't remember if it booted through dos or not...

mmmmm maybe that is it..but i think it may be another very similar game..i don't know.i'll go with stargunner for now ;]
