Okami HD- PS3

Not sure if I'm excited or not. Capcom's RE remakes left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know how the DMC one turned out.

Meh, I hope platinum gets the license for okami at some point so kamiya and others can make the sequel the game very much hints at (funny considering how long the game is)

Okami HD Japan: 3990 ($50)
Okami HD US: $20

Like I always say. Nobody gouges the Japanese like the Japanese. It sold like shit the first time Japan. It deserves to sell like shit again.

I'd almost play this if they made it harder. It's a 40 hour game. Fun, but I don't have 40 minutes to do anything other than fist myself these days.

Another issue to be torn on. There is obviously tons lost in translation here... but the Japanese is damn near impossible to follow for a whitey.

The Japanese price suggests a retail release, while we in the west only get a PSN download. Capcom did the same for Resident Evil Chronicles HD. I'd much rather pay $50 for a disc based game than $20 for a download that I can't touch, give away or sell.

Wake me up when they release Viewtiful Joe or God Hand HD.

(VJ was really designed for the Gamecube controller, though.)

Viewtiful Joe was perfectly playable on PS2, imho.

Great. Another company jumping on the HD remake bandwagon. Where's Chaos Legion 2 or P.N. 04? Good sequels over HD remakes.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Lol. Sig worthy.

Final Fantasy X HD was also announced for PS3 & Vita.

Suggests, yes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a pricey download. Most Japanese companies are not adjusting their prices to offset the strong yen. Apple seems to be the only one that doesn't let people arb their products.

The ICO/Wander to Kyozo remakes were about 2x the cost for the JPN releases.

Yeah, I enjoyed it on PS2, but playing a 40 hour game and not dying once kinda sucks.

I remember Kamiya being deeply saddened by the fact that they altered the whole credits sequence for the subpar Wii release. I wonder if they will do the same with this version.

I totally refused to touch anything Okami related since the closure of Clover. That include the DS spin-off as well. Okami was a masterpiece, but today's Capcom can burn in the fires of hell as long as I'm concerned.

Just about anything Okami related Capcom did post-Clover was laughable. Cutting out the credits. WTF? Licensing issue? And didn't the cover have the IGN watermark on it FFS? Good lordy.

You can force the game on the ps2 to 16:9 and you can force it to run 480p.
All on an actual ps2.

So you play HD versions of old games on the same console.
I bet this is possible for other systems too.
The future is now!

480p is not HD.

Also, both versions of Okami run fine in PCSX2 and Dolphin(and so do the Viewtiful Joe games). So, those with decent PCs should consider that option too. No need to double dip if you can already play Okami in HD on your PC.

WELL, great to hear about all this fisting and whatnot.

Anyway, unlike the RE remakes, they seem to be showing a lot more images this time around.

These look GREAT, but I'm still weary. I just don't trust Capcom with these things.

Here's a trailer, comparing the PS2 version to the new one. Of course, they used like composite or something. The PS2 version looks way better than that.

Right? It's funny that they shit-canned Clover right after this... yet... here we are porting it to systems with a FRACTION of the user base the PS2 had at the time.

It's almost ok to go out of business if your final crowning achievement is one of those Perfect Video-Games such as God Hand.

Reading the article at Eurogamer...seems like the Rez HD crew are doing this. Thank GOD! I guess I will be snagging this after all.

Anybody here who didn't get the PS2 one, and has a PS3...definitely check it out.

Only problem is, it is way too easy. Other than that, it's one of the PS2's best.

I never really understood the love for this game. It's....pretty rough. Good idea, with the fighting, but it just seems a mess. But that's just me.

I think that problem is precisely what keeps it from being one of the PS2's best. It's not exactly a little one.

God Hand has a few techniques that break the game (infinite Drunken Twist cancels, infinite Side Kicks against walls, Chain Yanker + Yes Man Kablamm), but you can opt to not use them. There's even a reward for getting a clear without using roulettes or invincibility, which allows the supremely tight design and depth of the fighting mechanics to shine through. The fixed over-the-shoulder camera is amazingly functional and really should be used in more non-TPS games. Boss and enemy designs are some of the best in the genre, and the open-ended levels are largely free of the gimmicky hazards that plagued Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.

Also, how many other beatemups do you know of with RANK? You always want to try to stay at maximum rank (Level DIE) in God Hand for the larger bonuses, though. Hard mode fixes you permanently at max rank!

Not to mention one, of the funniest video-game stories with most memorable characters to come out these last two generations.

AHHHHHHH I'M HONNNGRY HOMBRE
I COULD GO FOR A LITTLE JUEVON

Elvis is up there for having one of the greatest boss themes in history. Masafumi Takada really outdid himself with God Hand.

I just revisited Wind Waker (the endgame seemed like a chore so I left it for later first time around) and bloody hell, is it like a chore indeed. The weakest parts of Ōkami (basically whenever it would left me usure where to go and what to do next) weren't as chore-like. I think what made them more enjoyable was that the travelling was more fun. Sailing is not "interactive" (for lack of a better word) enough for me.
I'm pretty certain people complaining about the easiness of Ōkami haven't achieved everything there is to achieve in the game. 100% completion is not that easy. As for the combat, Amatersu is about the most powerful deity in the game's world embodied. Losing would be just not like her.

Dante is portrayed as being practically invincible in DMC3's cutscenes, but it didn't break the illusion at all to have the game so blisteringly hard.

DMC3 is a fighting game. Ōkami isn't.
