This will be probably a question towards Fudoh but as there are rarely topics about a PSX here it might useful to have in the archives.
I recently dug out my old PSX (actually PS-One or however it is called) and wanted to play some raycrisis which resulted in some strange behaviour of the picture :

This is with using the Ebay-Scaler between the PSX and the TV. Connecting the PSX directly to it even enhances the effect. I tried it on another LCD at home and it looks pretty much the same.
Now i'm pretty curious - why is this happening - My guess is (correct me if i'm wrong) that the TV / Scaler tries to deinterlace the picture. Now my TV and Scaler don't have this problem with 240p sources. So (again correct me if i'm wrong) i assume that the PSX is outputting something off-240p like 224 lines or anything and the deinterlacing is doing this strange stuff with it ?
Now the other thing is - how to get rid of this. Would it do any good using a PS2 instead of a PSX? Or does it basically output exactly the same in this case ? My other thought is to use it with a PS2 and use and Iscan Pro to deinterlace it. But will this do any good ?
PSX scaling / deinterlacing woes
Re: PSX scaling / deinterlacing woes
Looks like a bobbing effect which is caused by deinterlacing.
Somebody else would have to confirm which format RayCrisis outputs. I would assume that it's 240p, but since it'a very late PS1 game, it might be 480i ?
The GBS always tried to deinterlace since it doesn't know real 240p.
Has nothing to do with the 224 lines. PS1 games are full resolution (240 lines) anyway, while PS2 games are 224/448 lines only.
PS2 should look exactly the same. PS1 games are done in hardware, so there's no difference in the output signal.
The iScan Pro is ALWAYS better than the GBS.
If I can find my RayCrisis copy, I'll test this tonight. Yours is NTSC, right ?
EDIT: found the US PS1 version, will try it after the soccer match.

Re: PSX scaling / deinterlacing woes
Oh god that was painful to watch.
Mine is ntsc in fact.
I tried using an slg afterwards the problem still exists, just + scanlines.
Well looks like i will still try to get a hold of a fitting ps2 as i would really like to try this with the iscan and i have no option to convert the rgb to component.
Although - wait a second. I might just try to use the composite input on the iscan. It's worth a try and i have everything ready.
[Edit]
Tried composite on the iscan. Looking much better. With the slg behind nearly gone. But without it is still pretty visible.

Re: PSX scaling / deinterlacing woes
(indeed, bad match....)
I just tried it. On a PS2 with component output. the game is pure 240p, nothing fancy about it and rock solid picture on both my XRGB and my Faroudja set.
Has to be a deinterlacing artefact caused by the the color combination (white filling plus grey outlines) where the deinterlacer can't decide wether to merge the outline with the inner part or the outer one.
Should be much better on your iScan.
Really good graphics by the way. I didn't remember RayCrisis to be so technically advanced on the PS1.
