SLG Scart

Post by Stainomo »

Has anyone any expirience with this little device?

Image

"This is the last project called Retro TV / SLG Scart. It gives just Scanlines to RGB SCART consoles without any need of additional scaler or sync stripper. It`s easy to install and to configure."

This seems ideal to add to my current setup

with the SLG

Snes ->RGB cable -> SLG Scart -> iscan hd -> projector using HDMI.

But is the effect anywhere near the SLG 3000?

We got a thread somewhere on this already.

You only get 120 scanlines on a 240p signal and what your TV eventually makes of it depends on how your TV handles 240p signals (as progressive or 480i instead).

i couldn't find a thread on it - only some messages in the slg 3000 thread.

Since my iscan HD does 240p this should be a fine solution for my snes hmmm

(i'm the person who mailed you yesterday - a framemeister is still a bit expensive :) )

But understand that you only get HALF the scanlines. On a CRT or with a SLG3000 you're supposed to get one scanline along with every pixel line (so 240 on a 240p signal). I don't like the idea of the SLG Scart...

ah i misunderstood that part! I thought you meant it only worked for 240p.

Seems quite useless then!

It's more a novelty than anything, accurate it isn't but then who actually gets their nose up to the screen and measures the thickness of a scanline :) You're far better off trying to integrate the SLG3000 into your setup though.

I know.

The main problem is that i have a 10 meter long good working HDMI cable running from my projector to my other components. A VGA cable is quit expensive and 480p to 720p with scanlines is quite hard on a scaler - doubt the intergrated scales of my sanyo Z4 is very good.

So i'd need a VGA to DVI scaler - which would cost a bit.

iscan hd - 150€
SLG - 70€ (housing shipping etc)
vga to dvi scaler 150€

that's framemeister pricerange :)

I've found most TV's can upscale 480p content reasonably well, can't comment on the Sanyo though.

I have one of that, just to add scanlines to some of my games running in 480i in a crt monitor. Never tryed on a LCD, because for that i have the slg 3000.

Hey,

http://www.systemerror.co.uk/2011/12/06/scanlines/

Here is nice article summing up SLG SCART vs. SLG3000 plus Sync Strike and Scaler.

The SLG SCART does no active scanline emulation and does not have the performance of the SLG3000. But it`s quick and "dirty" way adding a scanline feeling for RGB SCART.

I picked up one of these the other day, and so I have made few videos if anyone wants to see the unit in action.
I think my TV does a fairly good job on it's own, but I wanted scanlines.
The scanlines would look better if they were a little bit narrower and I'm not sure if I prefer it over the 'clean' picture, but at least I have more options now, at a relatively modest outlay.
Yes, I know the quality isn't great.
