Programmable Remotes

I just got a CRT. It came with a universal remote, but the remote doesn't work with the TV. I don't know if I can program it, I don't have any codes. Do I have to worry about compatibility issues if I buy a new remote? Which one should I get if I just want to use it to change the output mode?

Google the make and model of the remote and you should be able to find codes for it.

If you're looking to buy a new one, the Logitech Harmony line are the most flexible ones I've seen. You connect it to your computer to program it using their massive database of devices, and they also have an IR learning function (though since you don't have the original remote that wouldn't be much use to you).

What make and exact model is the crt? Perhaps someone may have advice based on that...

Beyond that if you're looking to switch to scart rgb you might find you need a constant blanking signal. Although most sets can simply be switched into the rgb mode, some do not stay switched. Typically, not an issue with a console, but could be if you're routing a supergun/rgb mod/processed signal through.

I have a lost, unmissed Harmony remote. Think hard about why you would possibly want an LCD display on a remote...pretty superfluous IMO, though not so much as a touchscreen.

I like Sony's RM-VL* series.
