@Stealthlurker: don't expect too much from the Sony s-video to RGB converter. I had the european model and it really doesn't do anything for quality. Hope you didn't pay too much. I ended up giving away mine for free.

It was actually pretty cheap (minus the shipping). I only wanted it because I have a Sony CRT from Japan that only has a 21pin input on the back. So this at least opens up s-video without me having to whip something up. For composite I've got a powered composite to s-video converter that works pretty nicely.

Finally invested in a reasonable entry level hi-fi system:

Cambridge Audio CD10
Marantz PM6004
Monitor Audio BX2s (oak)

Really satisfied with the sound quality at about a quarter volume. I doubt I'll ever test it above half. Unless I see the next door neighbour going out.

Not bad for entry level. If you want you can always ditch the CD10 and get a good Cyrus CD player (I use a Cyrus CD6S CD Player, it's fantastic).

good man - I kinda wish you could still get 2000AD collections in the bigger page format though, I got the first part of that collection of Nemesis and I was kinda dissapointed by the page size.

Man I so wish I had never sold off all my 2000AD's in 1990, I had pretty much EVERY prog with any Nemesis or ABC Warriors story in it up untill that time :'(, and all the Titan Books Nemesis and ABC Warriors books and Sláine The Horned God. I also had a really cool version of Nemesis Book III which was coloured by O'Neill and actually had an extra set of frames per page!

oh well, I'll stop lamenting now...
so that's Nemesis Book V - VII?

I'm sure you've read them, but if you haven't you should try and get ABC Warriors - The Black Hole as it slots in around then - I can't remember exactly but its between book IV and VI of Nemesis I think.

Yep, Nemesis vol II, books V-VII. It's got the infamous photostories in there too - haven't quite mustered up the courage to read them yet though. Definitely agreed about the page format. Another nuisance with these editions is the lack of colour. It's especially noticeable in the first volume of the ABC Warrior's collection - some amazing work done there (I especially like McMahon and O'Neill's contributions).

And yeah, I've got The Black Hole. Great stuff, Mills' last great work before he went completely mental (the art helps too of course, although I have to say I kind of prefer the non-Bisley episodes). Do you remember The Kaos Kronicles? Wow, that was terrible! Bizarre how the art went from inspiring Warhammer 40K to imitating it as well.

I think there is actually a way to do it, but you need to dial into your PC (with a modem!) and set up a proxy to a private server or something like that.

It's probably not worth it.

yeah the centre page spread first 2 pages colour stuff was amaze - particularly in Book III (O'Neill) I particularly remember a vertical Mek Quake one and the actual pretty much mecha one of Mek Quake fighting a giant Torque mecha .

Black Hole is great - recent Sláine stuff is also great though IMO. The Kaos Kronicles is the really colourful ecstacy-tinged one isnt it? I have to be honest I kinda liked that (then again I am a grumpy old man of the rave generation) but yeah it DEFINITELY didn't fit in with the ABC Warriors universe at all.

My brother gave me the 1992 Titan reprint of books I & III and sundry other Kevin O'Neill stories for Christmas when I was... 12?... which I wasn't happy about since at that point I'd only really seen tiresome strident later Nemesis/Pat Mills, which I obviously didn't and don't like (Purity's Story ugh ugh ugh). But Book III... wow, my brain dribbled out my nose just looking at it. 'I always though the young male Catoblepas was the most handsome creature in the galaxy.'

Anyway, the Kaos Kronicles was the one where Deadlock tortures a bunch of people Mills doesn't like to death in grisly fashion; it was more boring than it sounds. You're right though, it did had some really nice full colour art (40K-ness aside) by, ah, Kev Walker I think his name is. I guess you could call it ecstasy inspired, although if I recall correctly Walker did a few death metal album covers before breaking into 2000AD. Is that allowed?

And yeah, I admit I might be being a bit unfair to newest Mills. I haven't read any new Slaine, but I did read the new Savage series and The Shadow Warriors and they weren't bad at all, even if Savage was a bit too 'high action' for a series about the horrors of occupation. He's obviously out of that awful preachy-enviro-pagan-twat groove he put himself in (as far as I'm concerned, his work nose dived when his sympathies shifted from the working class to magical nature spirits), anyway. More or less. Give me Mills circa 1982 any day though.

yeh I had all those Nemesis progs - yeh Book VIII Purity's Story is considered kinda crap, but tbh I even like that haha - Book VIII (The Inquisition one) and Book IX are amazing though 'Be Pure had a big mouth, I made it bigger' - ace. If anything Book II is my least favourite, the story is good but my god Jesus Redondo's art was SO wrong for Nemesis I thought.

Actually haha I can't seem to find the ABC Warriors book which I remember in my head as the 'ravey' one - unless it was just some one off but I just checked through all ABC Warriors up to Volgan Wars II (just .cbr unfortunately), and couldn't find it.

Hmm yeah I know what you mean about Mills going a bit TOO mystical, but I am Irish and I obviously do like stories rooted in The Táin, but sometimes you can even notice him applying (or over accentuating) 'hippy' type elements within it.

The Book Of Invasions is amazing though, probably my favourite since The Horned God.

Bisley is a metal man too I believe, it's cool how he did the cover for Danzig:Thrall Demonsweat Live and I think actually did quite a bit of stuff with Verotik also afterwards.
