Mushihimesama Futari Black Label iOS 6/23/12

I'd like to see a separate discussion regarding Black Label.

Comes out tomorrow.

I can't play Futari on a touch screen, but I'll buy this anyway.

This is the first Cave ios release I definitely won't be buying. I hardly bothered to play Futari 1.5 on ios and I haven't really given proper time to anything since DFK and EspII. I don't think I played Deathsmiles more than twice.

I definitely don't need a version of a game I prefer less than the original.

AKS would be wonderful if it wasn't for the fact it probably wouldn't work at all on a touchscreen. :(

EDIT: I just noticed in the other thread that this is $14. Someone in marketing needs firing.

Ignoring the boss rush thing (i assume thats the only addition) the games are like ~85% the same, how does that justify 14 dollars? Wasn't 1.5 cheaper then that?

Not exactly, BL original is 85% easier for survival, 85% harder for scoring (crazy approximations there.)
And then you have God, which is better than Ultra. Maniac's dry though.

All Cave's ios games have been cheaper than this. Someone's lost their cocking marbles asking for $14.

I think their touting the fact that it's universal for the price. BP(1) was priced kind of low in that regard.

Yeah, but their target audience (ie non-shmup players) aren't going to see a difference. Their just going to see the price and bash it.

I'll buy it when it's cheaper. 14 bucks is really pushing it too far...

Hey, if its any consideration, Futari's BL (360 DLC) is $15/1200MSP. So yeah...

... This is the game that's coming with the boss rush mode, right? The mode that includes bosses from both Mushihimesama games? Making this essentially have content from two games?

Not that that justifies the price point, but it might explain it.

Ok. So more info has been posted since the app is out in New Zealand.

●Additional mode: "BOSS RUSH MODE"!
You are going to battle bosses from "Bug Princess" and "Bus Princess 2".
Test your skills in Grade Examination!
Defeat the bosses and earn the highest grade!
You can post your results on Twitter.

* Use of the additional mode is subject to additional fees.
* With the purchase of the additional mode, you can play unlimited times and save your progress.
* If both "Bug Princess" and "Bus Princess 2" are installed in the same iPhone, you can play once a day for free.

●3 different game modes with 4 levels of difficulty.
Original Mode: Not too many bullets.
Maniac Mode: Relatively large number of bullets.
God Mode: Maximum bullets! Everything is out of the ordinary!
Try all the game modes!
You can choose from 4 difficulty levels: Novice, Normal, Hard, and Hell.

●A universal app with high resolution graphics!
Bold is mine. So that puts the price right in line with their other HD releases.

Ah, right. The extra mode is effectively DLC.

Forget my previous post, there isn't even an explanation for the price point.

It's not HD or anything. I guess they were talking about the menus and stuff.

Okay, now I'm confused. When I buy this game, will it look like:

a) Espgaluda II HD and DDPR HD or
b) Bug Princess 2

on my iPad? Because I strongly assume it's going to be b, not a. If it's a, they haven't really done a good job of communicating that this game looks much better than Bug Princess (1 and 2), especially since it doesn't say "HD" in the title. If it has a better resolution I might consider buying it.

Whoops, didn't see your post. Yeah, I guess they mean it isn't a pure iPhone app that runs x2 on the iPad like Deathsmiles for instance, but like Bug Princess 1 and 2, but still with blurry upscaled graphics unlike DDPR HD/EspgII HD.

Somebody broke the total score leaderboard already. 9 quadrillion or something?

There is no separate leaderboard just for buying the custom shop cheats. Who wants to find out if this is Cave's first Pay-to-Win?

The boss rush is crap by the way. The slowest difficulty progression ever. Your battery will drain before you can lose.

Yeah I noticed that BS score. I'm in second on the leaderboard with 890mil. Hopefully they fix that and something's wrong with the difficulty scoring. I was able to get almost 700 mil on Novice. As it stands there's almost no incentive to play the Hell difficulty, which is pretty disappointing.

I'd also like to know what happens with the custom shop cheats. If it's really pay to win, that sucks.

Yeah, pretty much unplayable. I went through twice and never got close to anything resembling original patterns.

Well, I broke down and just bought it, just a little over 10€ is still okay with me, after I decided to not bother with the boss rush mode, and really, Futari is one of these shmups where I actually prefer the stages to the bosses.

I've been very out of touch with the newer Cave games, so I didn't really have a solid idea what makes BL different, but I instantly enjoyed it even more than the regular version. Gems, gems everywhere, and a ton of bullet cancelling, at least more than I noticed in 1.5. This might end up actually being the first iOS shmup I might actually try playing for score (against myself, basically, I don't care for leaderboards).

I think this game lends itself to touch controls really well. The smooth sweeping motions you tend to do on iOS work really really well for Original mode especially. It's super fun and frantic playing way up the screen point-blanking and milking/shedding everything on iPhone/iPad. Nearly unlimited speed allows for some interesting scoring strategies that don't exist in previous versions as well. This is the best Cave iOS game IMO. Just hope they sort out the leaderboards/difficulty scaling thing.

That would be Deathsmiles's iPhone mode on anything other than Novice difficulty. Beat it without one of the for-money weapons, I dare you.

I think it's amusing that people are willing to shell out 1k $ and more for a cave PCB and then we are discussing if its a rip off when they have to pay 10$ for the same game on iOS...

I have this to say about the boss rush modes:

If you're willing to slog through the first eight or so tediously easy rounds, it gets awesome and challenging for the rest. Also, once you get to, say, the 9th round, you can skip rounds 1-8 on any subsequent playthroughs.

But you have to put it in perspective: ios Futari 1.5 is already out, it's superior to BL and it's less than half the price. Someone might be inclined to pay the same cost twice to get the additional version if they're really horny for God mode, but $14 is so overboard it's, well, kinda silly.

But, there is new achievement: Fan milking.
