Anyone here have Capcom Generation 5 for the PSX/Saturn?

Post by Nei First »

I came across both in a store recently. Were these arcade ports for both systems any good?

Haven't played the PSX version, but I have the Saturn version. As far as I can tell, it seems to be the best home port of SF2 / SF2 Turbo. My only complaint about the Saturn version is it should've used the RAM cart. It's near perfect now, but it could've been perfect with a little extra memory. :)

Yeah I've wondered why some of the games weren't made to take advantage of the extra RAM.

What's missing, is it the usual sound issue?

To be honest, the graphics look true to the arcade original. Most of the sound is there, and sounds pretty good. Normally in the arcade you could skip the VS match screen, but in the Saturn version, you have to wait a few seconds. I'm guessing this is due to the lack of the RAM cart. Over all though, I'm very satisfied with the Saturn version of Capcom Generation 5. I played the original SF2 Turbo in the arcade a lot, and it's very close. I've also played the SNES version of SF2 Turbo a lot, and while that's pretty good, Capcom Generation 5 is a lot better. :)

SF2T is my most favourite out of the original streetfighters. I might pick this one up then, but I'll wait a little while just to hopefully find out what the PSX version is like.

Thanx for the info man.

I have the US PSX version of 5 (Street Fighter Collection 2), and have been thrilled with it. It has always seemed 100% dead-on to me, though I probably don't have the expertise to notice the real small differences superhitachi4 can.

Just a thought - the PS2 Capcom Classics Collection is due out this month at $19.99 and will include all these SF games, as well as most if not all of the games from Capcom 1 - 4, as well as a few extras. If you have a PS2 you might want to look at that. Of course, it will probably lack true low-res display.

There is also alot of artwork and extra music and tips (in Japanese) in the japanese ports, don't know about the US ports.

This goes for all Japanes Capcom Generations 1-5 for the Saturn.

@bigbadboaz: Almost forgot about the Capcom classics collection. Final fight alone is worth that. 8)

@D: Thanx for that info, probably best if I wait a little while to see how Capcom Classics Collection turns out.

Waiting for the capcom classics collection is wise.

Although I'd think that capcom gen. 5 on the psx would be the same as the saturn, I should point out that SSF2T on the PSX looked washed out compared to the saturn, so it is hard to say. I know that the saturn version plays, looks and sounds pretty much exactly the same as the arcade (at least, as far as I can tell.)

The Saturn version of SF2T suffers some frame stuttering when in Blanka's and E. Honda's stage, and when the music is set to remix. The PSone SF2T version doesn't, but the load times suck. The defeated opponent's scream is missing from both versions, when you win the match by throwing or grabbing - very annoying.

So, long load times, some missing frames and sound effect issues? :x

Still, I'm sure they are both a blast to play. I would have still got one of them, if I hadn't been reminded of Capcom Classics Collection. Yeah, I'm definatly gonna wait to see how this one turns out first.

Thanx again for the info guys, you ALL own!

So are you saying what Gydocker45 said is contradictory?

Nope, just being critical for setting the music to remix. If you're going for nostalgia, you need to go the WHOLE way! 8)

Regardless, I've never noticed the problems he's mentioned, but I've never played it with the soundtrack remixed (I'm not sure I even noticed there was an option for that).
