Espgaluda 2 or Dodonpachi Resurrection?

Post by Blue Buddah 78 »

Been thinking about what my next shmup purchase will be for the 360 and have narrowed it down to Espgaluda 2 and Dodonpachi Resurrection. I'm curious as to which one members of the community prefer and why?

What we prefer is irrelevant its what kind of shmup you prefer that matters , if you can say we can probably say which one is more suitable .

I'm interested in a game that isn't as insane as Mushihimesama Futari. Something that an intermediate player can get into without being completely overwhelmed in the later stages.

Definately not Espgaluda 2 then. It's one of the hardest, most complicated Cave games.

Aye really futari is the perfect game for intermediate players , original shouldnt be a problem for intermediate skill level and maniac should be attainable with some good practice .

I agree with KidQuaalude. Espgaluda 2 is one of the most complicated shmups I've ever played.

Assuming you're playing Arcade or XBOX 360 mode (not novice), the game will get extremely difficult as you progress. I don't know if you play for score, but Galuda 2 takes a whole lot of practice and there's always improvement to be made. I personally find it quite frustrating.

I may be alone here, but DDP DFK is one of my favorite shmups. I've spent countless hours playing it. If you're an intermediate player, you shouldn't have too much trouble 1CC'ing or a least coming close to a 1CC after you become familiar with the stages and what not.

Plus you have Arrange A & B. Arrange A is really where it's at. If you've played DOJ and enjoyed it, I'm sure you'll like Arrange A. Arrange B is fun for an occasional thrill, but nothing special. Nevertheless, it's a fantastic mode to mess around with. See how many bullets you can make appear on screen before you can't see your ship anymore!

Much fun to be had with DoDonPachi Res. I would recommend it over Galuda, but it's up to you.

Both have crap scoring systems, the exception being DDP Rez arrange A mode, which is awesome.

That is a very curious comment, but it's clear that they're both games that take a lot of practice to get somewhere with regards to scoring, compared to Arrange A which is just "fire and forget". I doubt this makes them crap, though!

DFK 1.5 is definitely friendlier than Espgaluda 2 for survival, if you don't object to having an autobomb. I might recommend spending a little more time on Futari Original or Novice Ultra though first.

Arrange A is awful as well. Liking DOJ does not necessarily mean you'll like Arrange A. It's even worse than 1.5 is actually. It doesn't have DOJ's emphasis on dodging at all since you can spam Hypers and just actually cancel almost everything. Yeah, that same complaint people falsely say about DFK 1.5 actually does apply here.

DFK is only easier for survival in the first loop. Then you hit the second loop and the game no longer has fun patterns.

ESPGaluda II is easily the better game, whether you're trying to play for score or not.

I got Galuda II this weekend, and fuck me if it isn't balls hard. May be the first Cave shooter that simply isn't for me.

It's probably less hard than you think. let me guess, you don't know you need to raise your "over level" to get more gems from enemies? start off each game by being in kakusei mode with no gems until it stops "charging" circles around your character. Pointless mechanic IMO, you need to do it or the game will be really hard and the tutorial says nothing about it..

I'm also in the espGaluda2 is frustrating camp. The scoring requires tonnes of perfecting which comes with unbearable restartitis, for me anyway.
On the other hand resurection is great fun, especially from stage3 onwards.

DFK & Galuda 2 are my two favorite CAVE games. U can't go wrong with either.

I love the aesthetics and gameplay of both.

U can play both for survival, or score and it's an enjoyable experience.

It's true that Galuda can be frustrating hard if you play for score but that's only because it's about planning and execution rather than reaction. However it does have an awesome "Omake" mode you can unlock which is pure fun.

They both have badass level design and bullet patterns and annoying as shit mechanics.

I recommend DFK/Resurrection because Arrange A is hilarious.

Yea, Omake is highly amusing to play  . I personally enjoy Galuda's Arrange mode a lot more over Resurrection, but Arrange A is fun in its own right.

You're actually right. I take back what I said about one liking Arrange A if one likes DOJ. I realized my mistake after I posted. You can in fact spam hypers and bullet cancel half of the level and/or boss attacks. They are very different in many ways. It's just that that's the comparison that has stuck in my mind.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with either game. However, I still like DFK more.

The good thing about Galuda 2 is that if you start to become too frustrated and find yourself slipping into a rage, just play on novice to make yourself feel better  It's a guaranteed 1LC every time.

So, Arrange A is just like DOJ X mode?

If by that you mean they both have overly finicky, overly punishing scoring systems then yes, I agree.

At least Arrange A is fun to learn in terms of survival AND scoring.

I'm not concerned so much with score, I'm more interested in the difficulty not being outrageous.

Nope, I knew nothing about this and was wondering why my gem count seemed so low even when killing everything in sight. May try again later.

You can't go wrong with either. I'd pick whichever one appeals to you more as far as graphics/setting and music. They're both fantastic games.

As some of the others have mentioned, Espgaluda II has the Omake mode which is awesome. It is more straightforward to play and much easier to clear than the original game. I'd say it's one of Cave's best arrange modes and outshines the Black Label version.

I think Dodonpachi Resurrection is Cave's worst release by a good bit, but ESPgaluda 2 is hard as nails, so it might not be right for you.

I'd say go for DDP Resurrection, but beware because for me it's the same as Futari on original, I can't go further than lvl 4.
Oh and ESPGaluda II is insanely hard so... :P

I'm a huge noob and don't play for score and I play galuda 2 more than just about any other game.
I personally like the arrange mode where you can take out either pink or blue bullets because it adds an interesting element to the gamplay:

Not to get my panties in a twist, but read my statement, why you quote me there I have no idea. And yes I do think it's balls hard. I have a few major issues but I'll ask about those on the relevant board. As long as I don't have to deal with Mr Galuda Full Shmup.

Sorry chaps, I didn't mean to make it sound like you were specific culprits! I was just trying to point out how the general forum consensus seemed to have shifted (for the more sane, I might add) regarding the game's difficulty.

It was pretty poorly thought out, apologies for the way it came across.
