Rotating Dell Monitors Counter-Clockwise (Dell U2312HM)

Post by Rupert H »

I know, this topic has been done before but I'd like to get a definitive answer. I have a Dell U2312HM and I want to rotate it CCW rather than the CW that it rotates by default. Some of you have confirmed that you've removed the metal plate, rotated it CW, then re-screwed it back in place. This does not work both Dell monitors I have owned.

As you can see from the images, once you try to put the plate back onto the pivot, it doesn't sit back in place as there are two jutting protrusions that click into place on the pivot that no longer align.

I believe the folks that say they have done this simple mod, but why can't I get it to work? Am I misunderstanding the idea?

That circular mounting plate doesn't spin? Did you loosen the lugnut in the center, or is something else pegging it to an orientation? It looks like it's at a 45 degree angle now in your picture, which wouldn't line up either...

Yeah, the thing I've labelled as the pivot spins 90 degrees. I put the plate in vertical screen position, then removed the plate and tried to put it back on the pivot in horizontal position but it won't fit back on. That image of the pivot is the same 90 degree position that it is in the first picture labelled "default".

I really want to keep this monitor but unless I can figure this out it's going to have to go back. :(

... I don't mean to be rude, especially if this isn't something you're comfortable doing and/or I'm looking at the wrong bits or not seeing how this fits together - wouldn't a drill/file/saw quickly solve this, it wouldn't detroy the setup by filing away or adding holes ? Sure there's someone who could do this for you if you like the monitors. Can't quite tell... does it even need to be a super accurate since the main fixings are the 4 screw holes?

If you can't figure out how to get it working with the stock stand, you could also just get a third party stand - the Dell monitors can also be attached to VESA-standard mounts.

I typically suggest Monoprice for monitor stands/desk mounts, but you're on the wrong side of the pond for that...

Just ignore those nubs on the pivot, they only jut out by a few mms anyway.
As the above post mentions, its the 4 screws that hold the plate in anyway.

Just hold it in place and tighten the 4 screws in when the plate is rotated
leftwards (counterclockwise). The nubs arent big enough to interfere with mounting the plate.
And if it really bothers you, you could drill a hole into the plate or saw the nubs off.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies everyone.

To be honest I hadn't considered physically altering the pivot. From what I understood I could simply move thing around and it would work. If this is the only way though I'm happy to give it a go.

Thanks for the advice but ideally I don't want to spend any more money on this.

I tried ignoring the nubs but they're so big that the plate doesn't fit evenly back on the pivot. It's so unfitting that you can't even screw the screws back in because they're not long enough to bridge the gap created by the nubs. It sounds like filling them down is my best option.
