Oh please, don't start.The n00b wrote:Love that Sony quality!

Of course, no one will bring up that great Microsoft quality-so great, that you're playing dice with your money unless you buy an XBOX that was made THIS year, and has a Samsung drive.

Heh, does this mean that later on down the road, these remaining defective adaptors will become eBay rarities?
"RARE!!! PSTwo AC adaptor DEFECTIVE!!! This is the legendary AC adaptor that can burn down your house!! Sony issued a recall so these items are out of production and rare! Hot HOT HOT!!!! Buy It Now and receive a free bag of BBQ coals!!"

Whose name is on the console? Who saw the potential to save $0.03 or whatever per unit and went with the cheaper (and ultimately defective) part? It's Sony's product, Sony's responsibility, and it's completely reasonable to point to Sony's uneven hardware reliability with this recall, as marginal outsourced components have undoubtedly led to other problems with their hardware in the past. It's not as if Hipro sent a suicide bomber to Sony HQ to demand the use of their melty component.dave4shmups wrote:Oh please, don't start. If you read that recall, it only applies to certain PSTwo AC adapters, which weren't even made by Sony.

Yes! I am so glad that my supply of endless entertainment was not interrupted. We are pleased to let you know that based on the information you have supplied, your PlayStation 2 does not require a replacement AC Adaptor. You can continue to enjoy the endless entertainment the PlayStation 2 has to offer.
As opposed to getting a crappy dvd-rom drive, no matter which version of the ps2 you decide to buy. The only thing you get a choice in, on your ps2, is whether you would like a ps2 that has overheating problems, defective AC adapter, or the real winner: DOESN'T WORK RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. Cue Price is Right victory music...dave4shmups wrote:Oh please, don't start. The n00b wrote:Love that Sony quality! If you read that recall, it only applies to certain PSTwo AC adapters, which weren't even made by Sony.

The only reason I haven't lost complete faith in this system is the selection of games available for it. As soon as this system is emulated though, I'm chucking this pos2.

And yet my (standard) PS2 has lived happily since I bought it 4 years ago, had a modchip installed 2 years ago, and all this without a single problem ever. Funny, that.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Ask ANYONE who works in the video game industry, and they will tell you that the PSTwo only overheats if it is inproperly displayed, and that it is the most durable model of Playstation 2. You have to give it a lot of breathing room; I had mine set up on a small table at least a foot away from my TV, and never once had overheating problems. And if I can do that setup comfortably in a room in our house which is smaller then most apartments, then I don't think this should be an issue. Or, you can simply get a vertical stand, and give it more breathing room that way. Either way, the vast majority of PSTwo's work fine right out of the box.The n00b wrote:As opposed to getting a crappy dvd-rom drive, no matter which version of the ps2 you decide to buy. And whose name is on all the XBOX consoles that have had major issues with crappy drives or bad power cords??

The xbox has its share of problems therefore it is okay to justify the unreliability of Sony's products. Now notice how Dave never brought up the Gamecube. I don't think that was an accident.Accutron wrote:What does the Xbox have to do with anything? This thread is about a PS2 recall. Nobody said "PS2 is unreliable, therefore Xbox is better".

No, I didn't mention the GameCube, because, AFIK, it is the most durable disc-basesd console ever built. It's been dropped seven stories and had a sledgehammer taken to it, and still worked, so I don't think there's too many durability issues with it.The n00b wrote:The xbox has its share of problems therefore it is okay to justify the unreliability of Sony's products. Justification has nothing to do with it, truth, however does. And everything I said about both the PSTwo and the XBOX is true to my knowledge. And that's all I'm going to say on the matter.
