RQ: Automatic single-shot in Ikaruga

How the eff do you do this? I know single taps will launch single shots instead of the automatic double shot, but many players use an automatic single shot and I can't figure it out.

Autofire. Map the fire button to two different buttons in the game, then use an autofire-capable controller and have one of those buttons on autofire. Then you have one button doing a stream of single shots and another button doing the normal twin shot.

If I recall, some Ikaruga cabs in Japan were modded with a similar autofire button.
