Re: Under Defeat HD
They're probably not going to do it because they're strapped for cash. It costs a lot more to put out a patch/DLC on Microsoft's service than PSN.
Re: Under Defeat HD
MS allow two free patches for package games. After that, they begin charging for each additional patch. UD HD on the 360 had a day-1 patch to fix some issues, so G.Rev still have 1 more free patch that they can choose to create. Now, MS are known for taking their time in qualifying patches.. so either the patch is done and is stuck in QA limbo, or it's not a priority for G.Rev at this time (as we know they're working on the Vita port of Sine Mora).Op Intensify wrote:They're probably not going to do it because they're strapped for cash. Yeah, it's only one free patch.
Pretty likely that they just don't have the dough.

It was my understanding that packaged/physical release games were allowed two free patches and downloadable titles (such as XBLA games) were allowed one free patch.Op Intensify wrote:Yeah, it's only one free patch.

Someone claims here that it's only one free patch for both retail and download games. After that you have to pay $40K each time. Apparently confirmed by both Skullgirls' Reverge Labs and Tim Schafer, though I can't track down the sources.
It may have been two free patches in the past; MS changes policies constantly. A little while ago they banned all XBL users from participating in class-action lawsuits, with no opt-out option.

Re: Under Defeat HD
Whether it is one free patch or two is going to be the deciding factor as to whether we ever get this update; that is of course assuming the G.Rev can even be bothered to code it now that the game and its' DLC have been sold.

"I mean, it costs $40,000 to put up a patch – we can’t afford that! Open systems like Steam, that allow us to set our own prices, that’s where it’s at, and doing it completely alone like Minecraft."
http://www.edge-online.com/news/schafer ... cost-40000
According to http://videogamepricesinfo.blogspot.ca/ ... costs.html the developer gets on average about 16% of the suggested retail price.
- 79.435 Yen per US Dollar
- 8379 Yen SRP per disc:
- (40000 * 79.435)/(8379 * 0.16) = 2370
Furthermore even if cash wasn't the issue maybe they feel they have done enough for the arcade component. The definitive Under Defeat version is the Naomi/Dreamcast version. The Xbox 360/PS3 release was supposed to focus on the 16:9 Under Defeat HD New Order (arrangement?) - the arcade mode was an homage to the original but wasn't necessarily going to be "arcade perfect".
New Order is actually quite entertaining - though I swear there are more bullets in the air than in the Dreamcast version ...

Can't blaim them. Direct your gratitude towards Microsoft. $40,000 for a bugfix? WTF. That's among the most idiotic shit I have heard this generation. Which saying a lot, considering the amount of shit that's been heaped on us in recent years.

The point is to discourage shipping buggy product in the first place. If updates were free, there would be no motivation for proper pre-release QA.Friendly wrote:Can't blaim them. Re: Under Defeat HD
Patches are a lot cheaper and have much easier approval processes on PSN, though.
Re: Under Defeat HD
I was going to suggest this. How many patches did Under Defeat on DC need?StarCreator wrote:The point is to discourage shipping buggy product in the first place. I doubt any Naomi to Dreamcast port was BAD / had game breaking options/bugs.louisg wrote:I was going to suggest this. Re: Under Defeat HD
So do you guys think this is worth buying just for New Order and whatever other new modes there are? I already have the game on DC and I'm aware that the HD version's Arcade mode is not a perfect port, even with the latest PS3 patch. It's one of my favorite shmups of all time, so I'm okay with owning it twice if the new modes are good.
Maybe they'll add a Joy Division mode as DLC. Hah!

Re: Under Defeat HD
My personal opinion: YES, absolutely! But that doesn't mean you can get rid of your DC copy - in fact I acquired a standard DC copy after I played Under Defeat HD New Order for a while. I didn't play the Under Defeat Arcade Mode much, partially because of the "moaning" about the aberrations in Arcade Mode in this thread and partially because I'm only willing to play ghetto tate on my widescreen for so long. I think that because of the possible diagonal ship orientation the ver-izontally arrangement works brilliantly - entirely unlike the "Strikers 1945" "Original 1" mode which totally wrecks the game. At the least Under Defeat HD New Order is an entirely different arrangement - possibly different enough to be considered a separate game. It is unfortunate that the HD release is being maligned due to the lack of fidelity of the Arcade Mode because it should really should be judged on the merits of the New Order mode. Under Defeat HD got me to the point where I was thinking: "I could have been playing something like this since 2006?!?" - which finally overwhelmed my resistance to get into the old Sega Platforms (Dreamcast/Saturn). Also I think the criticism of the new soundtrack is unjustified. If one started Under Defeat with the Naomi/Dreamcast version then one will tend to prefer the old soundtrack - I prefer the new soundtrack because unlike most Shmup soundtracks it has a carefree flair that is absent in other more frantic soundtracks.Op Intensify wrote:So do you guys think this is worth buying just for New Order?

Re: Under Defeat HD
This seems to say that the 360 version won't be getting the latest patch until early August:

Probably didn't raise 40K as they planned. Wait until after Kokuga comes out, I guess.

The Facebook post I saw for Rising Star had an email address, so I sent a query to the man via that. Good news for people in Europe that want something other than Cave releases.

360 only? What the fuck. I guess I can't argue with their reasoning that most everyone who wants the PS3 version will already have imported it, though.
Hope they distribute in the US through Aksys again like with Akai Katana Shin.
