I was like that for 5 years or so, now it's been about a year since I played 2dx last. If it makes you feel any better some of my biggest achievements came after long periods of not playing. Once you get about halfway through the 12s constant practice can get really demoralizing.
At any rate I focus primarily on shooters anymore and I find it a bit healthier for me emotionally :I

Ah for reference I'm well past the point of practicing 12's to clear them, well most 12's anyway, had it not been for the fact that we have lincle hooked up to p-amuse here I'd have likely lost interest and probably cleared Ketsui by now.
Yeah honestly if CS releases were still coming out I'd probably still be playing regularly, I think the closest machine to me is an Empress and it's several hours away. I have had the itch to place a bit lately though.

I used to be really heavily into Bemani too (starting about 10 years ago), but my interest basically died out when the CS releases stopped. The closest arcade to me is two hours away, so I don't get many chances to play the new versions.
Eventually fighting games, and now also shmups, supplanted them.
My first 1cc was Triggerheart Exelica. I remember the thrill of earning my first 1cc. The feeling of achieving a 1cc now will just never be as great as the first time.
Mine was DDP: A-L. Felt pretty good...actually, now that I think of it, that's a 2 loop game. I only 1-ALLd that. The only game I've truly 1-CCd was Futari 1.5 and Black Label in Original and Maniac.
First arcade 1CC was Deathsmiles, first (and only) arcade vert 1CC is Batrider Normal Course with player-select Strawman.
I don't consider Run 'n Guns to be shmups (they're more akin to platformers, IMO), but since someone mentioned Metal Slug above, if we're counting Run 'n Guns, my first arcade 1CC was Metal Slug X.
DDP C-S, for arcade. First bullet hell game I ever played as well. Took me several weeks of pretty thorough save-state practice, and I was just learning to use a joystick too...

I wish more people still played Guilty Gear XX #Reload online...
It depends. I managed to reach the highest score for Galaga and the levels just kept going. I think I made it to level 120-something (126? 127?). At the arcade, I've only beaten Gyruss. My first console 1cc was also Gyruss (on the NES)

I have Galaga on a Namco collection for the 360, but nothing beats playing it on an actual arcade machine. Once I have the space and money, I'm buying it as a cocktail arcade
