Modern LEs suck for the most part, yes. Early ones were amazing though.
That said, I'll still bite for stuff with artbooks and OSTs. Not into collectibles.

I buy a few of these. Generally only when they come with extras I want, usually a t-shirt and/or soundtrack. Aside from those extras, I generally don't want them. I hate steelbook, I don't want statues, I have no use for most of the DLC extras (guns that suck and multiplayer character skins...wheee), I just don't GET why they think a lot of this stuff is stuff people want. Then they end up on clearance...fast. I also personally don't get art books at all. I have lots of them...I don't think I've ever even looked through one. No interest at ALL. I figure I saw all the artwork by actually playing the game!
The LE's I've bought recently and semi-recently:
Catherine
Dark Souls
Castlevania: Lord of Shadows
Solatorobo
Radiant Historia
Y's PSP games (all of em)
Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Deathsmiles
Otomedius Gorgeous

<@scootnet> if you were a real gamer, you could jerk it to Super Metroid box art

Oh, hey, I have the Deathsmiles Aksys LE that came with the faceplate. I'm using that on one 360 right now

Re: Limited Editions Are Bullshit
I buy games at release that I really want. For games I really want, more is always better. Limited editions give me more. Hence, I buy limited editions. For everything else, I don't care. I tend to favor soundtracks and artbooks, and have no interest in figurines and other physical trinkets. If the price difference is huge and the only bonus is a big statue, then I'll probably skip though.
It's a good thing I don't care about most games nowadays. The vast majority of the ones I do buy are from 2D-focused publishers (e.g. Aksys, Atlus, Nippon Ichi, Xseed, Cave, Falcom) that I want to see succeed anyway. It's ironic that at release, most collector's editions nowadays outsell the normal versions.

Edit ,
Didn't one of these faceplate's sell for crazy money right before they announced a official release

Re: Limited Editions Are Bullshit
I'm fairly interested in what exactly makes Limited Editions worth the purchase for you guys. Is it sound tracks, DLC (more specifically what kind), strategy books, art books, figurines, posters etc.? Obviously these aren't absolutes, I'm just curious about the general trends you see in your purchase history.
For me it's DLC that adds actual game content (thought as I said before I wish they wouldn't do this in the first place), art books, and at times the sound track if I already know that it's good.

For me, I'd buy a LE for items such as soundtracks, shirts, keychains, art books, and maybe posters, stickers, notebooks - that sort of stuff. I tend to use those right away. Garbage such as DLC, dolls, and differing covers/overgrown boxes will make me turn to the standard edition

Re: Limited Editions Are Bullshit
It's sad that a modern LE isn't even equivalent to what a standard edition PC game would often include in the eighties/early nineties.
I buy LEs if the extras interest me and are related to something I care about. Especially so if they're free preorder bonuses (DLC aside).
