Nailed it in one. Other term you might hear occasionaly is 1LC, which stands for "1 Life Clear".
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I thought 1LC was "1 Loop Clear" for example clearing the first loop of DoDonPachi (which I'm very close to doing).

SCC:
Single Credit Clear
Single Coin Clear

1CC:
One Credit Clear
One Coin Clear

SLC:
Single Life Clear

No Miss:
Single Life Clear
Took No Damage Clear

Clearing of a single loop in a game such Gradius is normally written "SLC 1st Loop", "No Miss 1st Loop", "SCC Loop 1" or "1CC Normal" (obviously, you can mix-n-match). In a "never-ending" multi-loop shmup (more than 2 normally, although there are some 3 and 4 loop shmups), it is normally assumed that an SCC or SLC pertains to the first loop at default difficulty. Any alteration to the default set-up or to the loop number is normally referenced directly by the player.

Michaelm, if you want to know about shmup terminology, BulletMagnet has compiled an invaluable list with definitions of common (and not so common) terms. Give him a PM (his posts are easy to find here), and I'm sure he'll give you a link to it.

Heh, thanks for the free plug, prof. I'm not sure that the Glossary is even still floating around on here after all this time, but even if it's gone I have it saved to a Word document and can always copy and paste a new one on here if the demand arises. And I DO plan to eventually finish it, heh.

In any event, just to amend the stuff already said on this thread, generally to "officially" 1CC something, you need to play it on default settings: "normal" difficulty, etc. Though most people won't make a fuss if you say that you managed to "1CC game xyz on easy mode," or something like that, as long as you clarify.

In my opinion...NO.
However, if you do, and you are proud enough and want to talk about it, at least explain how you had the game set up.
Most people play on defaults, which is basically normal, or arcade/ MVS.

yeah thats why im asking, i personally allway play games with the standart setup, but i know many people which do by standart change the skill to easy or likes.
i think there are many people telling they 1cc ed a game without thelling that they made it on a different skill, i personally would prefer a more strict definition of the 1CC therm, for example it should include a "without changed game settings" if not otherwise mentioned.

I was about to mention the whole Auto-Rensha and Button remapping options being permitted, even though nobody is required to devulge this while posting a score.

When we use the term "Default Settings", it seems to refer to the following:
Difficulty
Lives per credit
Extend values

^Yes, those are the 3 main issues.
Nobody cares if you remap the bomb button. Nobody really cares if you use auto fire. Although autofire will change the balance in games like Mars Matrix...still, I prefer auto fire for even that game. (DreamCast style)

autofire is a tricky issue.

If it is available in the port without usig a special controller, then it's always considered okay. SOme games are absolutely meant to be played without autofire, though, and it's generally obvious when you are playing on eof them.

One bit of wiggle room I've seen applied to the one credit rule: games that restart the level when you continue, sometimes people will restart on the first level and then get a 1cc. Some games put a 1 as the last digit to show that there was a continue, so it's really just their word that they continued on the first level and not elsewhere.

right. of course they could just report the score aas a zero anyway. it's mre hoenst to include the 1 point.

anyway one game wher eauto fire is not allowed is twin cobra 2, for example. the game requires that you nmanually bash the button to charge up your shot power! using auto-fire is a huge jump in difficulty on the easy side.
