Ray Bradbury has Died
Ray Bradbury has Died
One of the most famous American writers of the 20th century (Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, The Illustrated Man, Something Wicked This Way Comes) has died yesterday, at the age of 91. Rest in peace!
Re: Ray Bradbury has Died
Oh no! This is terribly sad for me. One of my most beloved authors ever, been reading him since I was a kid.
RIP Ray, thank you for all of your gifts and inspiration!

I liked the Martian Chronicles. This reminds me I need to read more of his stuff!

Can't say much that hasn't been said already. Thanks for everything, Mr. Bradbury.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: Ray Bradbury has Died
Irreplaceable. Ray Bradbury made the world a better place than when he entered it on his written ideas. May he rest in peace.
Re: Ray Bradbury has Died
I've been reading him since I was a kid. The Illustrated Man is one of my favorite sci-fi stories. I hope the modern film adaption coming out in 2013 will be good.
Rest in Peace.

Sad news. I'm guilty of not reading his books but I'm a big fan of The Martian Chronicles series from the 70s. It was released on DVD about a year ago.
Plus I saw The Illustrated Man film last year, whilst on a Rod Steiger binge. I have a feeling that the book is probably much better than the film.
RIP
91 is a good innings.

Re: Ray Bradbury has Died
R.I.P.I learned that I was right and everyone else was wrong when I was nine. Buck Rogers arrived on the scene that year, and it was instant love. I collected the daily strips, and was madness maddened by them. Friends criticized. Friends made fun. I tore up the Buck Rogers strips. For a month I walked through my fourth-grade classes, stunned and empty. One day I burst into tears, wondering what devastation had happened to me. The answer was: Buck Rogers. He was gone, and life simply wasn't worth living. The next thought was: Those are not my friends, the ones who got me to tear the strips apart and so tear my own life down the middle; they are my enemies.
I went back to collecting Buck Rogers. My life has been happy ever since. For that was the beginning of my writing science fiction. Since then, I never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows, or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.

You might recall the classic black & white 1960s Twilght Zone episode, I Sing the Body Electric, that was penned by Bradbury himself.
May he rest in peace.

Trivia back 'atcha PCEFX: Rod Serling was part of, and great friends with the sci-fi rat pack of the day. The team consisted of:PC Engine Fan X! wrote:You might recall the classic black & white 1960s Twilght Zone episode, I Sing the Body Electric, that was penned by Bradbury himself.

Ray Bradbury - the master himself
Charles Beaumont - the most underrated short story author in the history of the universe
Richard Matheson - Scribe of 'I am Legend'
Serling admitted in an interview he would have been lost without these boys, whose brains were the goldmine for the 20% of Twilight Zone episodes Serling didn't have to write (he was contractually required to write 80% iirc), as well as secretly helping him with his own workload.
Beaumont, who met the saddest demise ever, was a genius who's famous for writing some of the best episodes of all, such as "The Howling Man" and "Perchance to Dream," while Bradbury and Matheson penned several greats also.
For anyone who loves Bradbury, read Matheson's "I Am Legend" (spit on that Will Smith movie) and Charles Beaumont's "The Magic Man." Satisfaction guaranteed.
