Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
Gotta say, Takumi is probably the biggest mystery of them all. I've yet to find any information regarding their (lack of) activity as of late. Did they close doors or something? Were they bought out by another company? It's like they just disappeared from the face of the planet.
".... that would be rubbish."

Mile-Stone is doing Wiimote games and released Hobibox's fight game Project Cerberus on Naomi.
Fuck! I want more shield+sword Shmups.
Not shmup related but, Namiki left Basiscape and is working as a M2's Sound Director right now.

Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
treasure are about to release an arcade hack'n'slash/gunsimulation type game for the arcades (dont remember the name).
looks like a final fantasy 8 battle simulator sort of.. very ambitious and looks shit if you ask me, but i suppose FF-fans might like it.
Psikyo was bought out by x-nauts i think? and x-nauts i have no idea, freelance programming work? dont think they ever dabbed in arcade games under that name.

Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
Damn Tokyo-J has a pretty loose definition of "recent".
Takumi's last shmup release was in 2004
Alfa System's was in 2006
MOSS' was in 2007
Psikyo's was in 2001
Teasure's was in 2001
Triangle Service's was in 2007
To my knowledge M2 and Gulti has never made an arcade game.
Milestone and hasn't made an arcade shmup since 2009 and I'm pretty sure they died.
The only active arcade developer has been Cave, and a tiny bit of G.Rev on the side, but G.Rev's latest games have been pretty disappointing, at least to me.

Pretty sure Alfa System is out of business, Psikyo is out of business, Takumi is probably out of business, no idea about any of the others that the others here didn't say.

Gulti Developed Trigger Heart Excelica for Sega Naomi GD Rom
Mile-stone developed Radirgy Noah on Naomi , Wii and Xbox 360
Psikyo Name was used in Development of Taisen Hot Gimmick 5 for Taito Type X and Sengoku Cannon for PSP
Triangle Service last game was Shooting Love 200X on Xbox 360
Treasure last worked on Radiant Silvergun XBLA port
There was some interest in these companies to release shmups within the last decade. Seems to be a dead genre now.

Pretty sure Warashi developed the game, the same guys that did Shienryu. I could be wrong, but Wiki also has Warashi under "Developers"Tokyo-J wrote:Warashi published and Gulti was the Developer.FIL wrote:Warashi made the Naomi Triggerheart Exelica. Gulti did one of the ports.
Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
It is Warashi. Gulti did the ps2 port. Mobygames, system16, insomnia.ac and oxtsu's chronology of shooting all list Warashi as the developer. Not to mention the game itself.

The Original Arcade game was co developed by Guilti and Warashi. I am certain.

The most recent dev that made a shmup for the arcades and comes to my mind as such is, um, Pyramid (?) with Dariusburst. Before that... Konami with Otomedius (not that recent, coin-op-wise) and Cave with Akai Katana.
I read Last Hope was meant to receive a coin-op treatment, but I'm not sure how it worked.

Somehow topic related:
How are the chances for a Shikigami no Shiro 4 or a new Alfa System shmup in general? Are they now a JRPG developer?

I don't care about Alfa System, but I'd love to see new stuff from Milestone, Skonec, Psikyo and above all Takumi.
But I must rest my head for the genre is all but dead.
EDIT: actually I meant the total opposite of the "all but dead" expression. it is dead.

Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
The original NAOMI version as well as the Dreamcast port were handled completely by Warashi. Gulti assisted with the XBOX 360 and PS2 ports (they appear in the credits of both of those versions). You are probably confusing THE with Mamoru-kun, which Gulti co-developed with G.Rev.Tokyo-J wrote:Cyber Connect did the PS2 portFIL wrote:It is Warashi. Gulti did the ps2 port. Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
This should be the most accurate:
Alfa System: Very much alive, but no longer making shmups. Most recent game was the PSP remake of Ore no Shikabane o Koete Yuke
Cave: SDOJ, NESiCA, mobile/social games, possibly still maintaining SMT Imagine
G.Rev: Kokuga (3DS tank game), Senko Vita, licensing characters for Sine Mora Vita
Gulti: Alive but inactive, most recent release was Mamoru-kun PS3
M2: Sega Vintage ports
MOSS: Raiden III + IV for NESiCA, licensing for soundtrack releases and live concerts
Mile-Stone: Alive but inactive, most recent release was a DS edutainment game
Psikyo: Dead, regrouped as X-Nauts, who made Sengoku Cannon before dying also
Skonec: Dead, made DS shovelware before dying
Treasure: Alive but inactive, most recent release was Guardian Heroes XBLA
Triangle Service: Ge~Sen Love announced after a long period of inactivity
Takumi: Dead, last release was GigaWing Generations
Warashi (Shienryu, Triggerheart Exelica) went under recently, their website has been taken down.

AlfaSystems is alive and supposedly is working on a sequel to Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke. At least, provided that the remake made sales targets that is what they were supposed to do next.

Re: Recent Arcade Shmup Developers. What are they doing now?
Come on, we really shouldn't start planning for a funeral yet. Wait until we go a full year without a single professional shmup release on a non-smartphone platform, or an announcement of one.
I wonder what will happen once we do reach that point, though. Everyone should band together to write some massive post-mortem/memorial article about the full history of the genre; its rise, decline, renaissance and eventual complete burnout. It would definitely get linked on a bunch of major gaming news sites.

Don't forget guys, even if the arcade shmup market goes boom, we'll still have tons of stuff to play, infact there's still unexplored doujin shmup market, so there is that.
