Sora Doujin

Post by Burningvigor »

What happened with this doujin?

Trailer:

I played the demo back in january and loved it. But now theres no new update for this game. Gameplay is fast and it looks really nice. Much better than Gundemoniom series.

The Japanese version is expected out at the next Comiket.
I think we'll probably pick it up if our other titles do well enough.

Problem with the check to see if it's running already.
Run it in Japanese using AppLocale or such.
(If you don't, there will be missing sound effects and such, anyway.)

Thanks, Sara, but it seems like I can't install AppLocale. At the end of the installation it says that a program needed for the installation couldn't be run. My computer hates Sora.

You may want to go look into that; it doesn't sound good.

To OP: If you haven't played Suguri, you can do that while waiting for this. Suguri is pretty much the direct predecessor of this game, which means it should be amazing. I don't know if a faster paced shooter exists out there. Diadra Empty is another game that is kinda similar with the dash mechanic.

Has anyone picked up the full version of Sora yet? Do you still need Applocale to run it, or is Windows with the Japanese code conversion tables installed sufficient?

Sweet! Instead of having to pay $30 + $20 shipping to himeya shop I found Sora for direct DL on melonbooks for what I think is a little under $25. The exception guide still works.

It's not a huge leap forward, but I'm definitely enjoying it more than Suguri.

In answer to my own previous post: Installing the Japanese code conversion tables is not sufficient. You must also go to the Advanced tab of Regional and Language options and set the language for non-unicode programs to Japanese. After that it runs like a dream, goodbye Applocale.

I have this game - I've just been lazy lately as the skateboard biz has been doing 1000% better than the doujin soft biz. I'll hopefully have an update tonight with this and a few other games as well as some new books. Check the site in about 8 hours - Sora will be there.

Excellent work, and thanks for the plug!! 8)
I've gotten 8 visitors to my site from your link so far...
If the numbers go up, perhaps we can work out some kind of doujin-games-for-links arrangement. :D

Holy Flaming Flying Testicles, Batman!

An english-translated applocale-not-required Win 7 compatible DRM-free 1.1-pre-patched version of Sora just popped up on Gamersgate!

Actually, I would consider this twice before buying just in case.

There seems to be something dodgy behind. I'll see if we can get Sara to explain.

A company other than Rockin' Android got the game right from under us and basically butchered it all to heck. I've explained this so many times already that it's getting a bit hard to. Maybe someone else who reads my Twitter or something would like to take care of that.

Part of summing it up, though: Reploids.

Here's what happened.

Rockin' Android passed up the contract for Sora in March, throwing it into another company's hands called Omegath (or something). Omega's translation, from what I've read of it, is terrible. It's stiff, it lacks personality, and it glosses over aspects of the plot that are really a driving point for the Sora and Suguri continuity. I offer my condolences to RA's in-house translator because I know that by giving up this project, it was a kick in the gut to her.

I don't really know who Omegath is, and I try to be supportive of doujin game publishers where I can, but if you do a bad job, you're doing a bad job.

If anyone got it, could you check if the music was altered somehow? The Sora OST is floating around, it's by DEKU. Check if the engrishy vocals are still present (Stage 4 and the last one IIRC) and such. Very curious about that.

That's a good point. There's some other voicefiles in the game as well, and I wonder if they pulled those or kept them in.

I would laugh if they were dubbed to that translation though.

I'm sorry about the translation, but this is a copy of Sora you can run without Applocale or setting your computer to japanese mode. I don't exactly play shmups for the plot so this is still a win for me. Especially considering Rockin Android likely would have only released a PS3 port.

Lemme guess the plot: Sora is fighting the final war but she doesn't want to fight and learns that her enemies have loved ones too, but just when she's thoroughly disillusioned with her battle, the #1 badguy turns out to be a Nihilist who loves war and therefore Sora is 100% justified in killing said Nihilist. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

Actually the main reason RA was so focused on PS3 was the lack of getting things on Steam for a long time... PC titles like this don't exactly sell that great outside of Steam. We've always wanted to see these games on their original platform and RA's focus right now is PC.

About that. Omegath actually didn't fix region or rename files in their port, so you can run it without Applocale just fine, but some sounds won't play correctly, or at all.

Nope. I have a copy of the original japanese release and it's the only doujin game in my collection that will not run without Applocale or changing region settings. Even the demo wouldn't run nekked, and I've tested it on 2 different computers.

I'm sure that Omegath hired a clone of Hitler implanted with the brain of Stalin to handle this project, but I'm still happy to have copy of Sora running without a frontend. I bought Suguri, Gundemonium, and Flying Red Barrel from Rockin Android and will happily buy any (non-steam DRM-free) games they release in the future as well as give them a shout-out at my underground punk concerts and be sure to distribute their Zine. But I'm not going to walk away from (imo) one of the best indie action games ever made out of some misguided brand loyalty.

Actually he's correct, the game runs but there -are- several sounds that won't play outside of Japanese locale in their release. It's only the sound however.

My mistake, I thought he was talking about the original Japanese release running without Applocale.

Bummer. :(

Okay, now I officially hate the English Patched version. I went back to gamersgate to look for any patches and while they have patched the game, they've also added Securom DRM. Boo!

Back to my old Japanese copy.
