It's OK I guess but I've never been able to get properly enthusiastic about it.

Same here.. always thought raystorm was the most boring of the ray-series (and obviously doesn't look as good as rayforce). I just think of Kamui as what it should've been lol. Not a bad game but it just doesn't follow up rayforce well.. HD port is bad because part of the gameplay area is cropped out of view as well.

edit: the R-Gear ship they added to HD is pretty awesome though and maybe the most fun to play for score, they did a good job with that.

Really enjoying Akai Katana Origin at the moment. The stage 4 boss owned me all last week , but finally managed to nail him this morning.

My first Akai Katana 1cc seems like a distant dream at the moment, but hay if it was easy what would be the point

Picked up RayStorm HD yesterday... It's OK I guess but I've never been able to get properly enthusiastic about it.

Yeah, I was aiming for a 1CC when it came out, but just got too bored of plodding through the first four stages (in fact, I think my best score was only a st4 or 5 one, so you should try and beat that).

Apart from the technical complaints, the thing I don't like about the HD version is how light and insubstantial everything feels. It's almost like you're fighting hollow aluminium models. The explosions are really weedy, too.

It's a lot harder to 1cc than a lot of manic shmups.. just get past stage 3 and you'll see. No extra lives either, heh

Mostly Armed Police Batrider lately, with a little Tatsujin now that I found my autofire pcb. Too bad autofire renders the blue laser useless...

Armed Police Batrider is just incredible. I am very late to the Raizing mourning party, but, damn. Really looking forward to digging into their other games with this newfound appreciation. So much to play, so little time

Nice set of games there! Batrider is phenomenal.

I've been playing a similar set of games tonight. First Battle Garegga, then Tatsujin Oh! They're so different but yet they're both awesome in so many ways. Tatsujin Oh is like an old school shmup fan's dream. Awesome music and graphics and incredibly challenging even though the screen isn't flooded with bullets like the manic shmups.

Agree with every word, man. Raystorm is a freakin' nightmare. I don't think I have ever "hated" a game so much since Ikaruga.

i am currently playing dodonpachi because well its been months since ive played a shmup and i want to get really good at them. im pretty bad though x.x, i can only get to stage 3 with 1 credit so thats kinda pathetic >< but either way i want to keep practicing and eventually be able to put up some video on youtube of my progress.

I tend not to read threads on games until I get them, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I guess I thought it'd be Deathsmiles-ish, but hell yeah it's more like Progear. I like the differences b/w Slash & Climax too. Very different feels, both good. Game has a rep for being easy, but as with Progear, horizontal danmaku throws me a bit. Strange I didn't have this issue nearly as much with Deathsmiles.

My brain still isn't distinguishing powerups from bullets from explosions and god knows what else, but I'll get there eventually. Biggest problem currently is realizing that I'm not invincible after tossing the katanas.

I started playing Death Smiles again. I bought the Japanese version, so now I have a bunch of great replays to download and learn from. My biggest problem with the game the last time I played it was that Death Mode (suicide bullets) felt like the laziest possible way to increase the difficulty, but it's pretty fun now that I've spent some time relearning everything. Gonna start going for 300m after spending a little more time in training mode.

I'm trying to learn Hellsinker scoring with other characters. Turns out that with Moon Cradle it's pretty much like P47 Aces - to score you get trapped in the geometry for fun and profit.

Gah. Died on the last stage of Darius Gaiden. Never gotten near that far before. Apparently, I needed to learn to stop worrying and use the bombs. Ah well. Hopefully a happy 1CC soon.

You'll probably get it sooner than you expect because of how many extra lives you can rack up during the game. you can get up to like 7 lives or something if I remember right. Side Vower is a bit harder than the main game but the better mode IMO.

MMMs videos are probably confusing for survival play, if you want an easy 1cc just keep using the weapons you are comfortable with instead of swapping around constantly. for example the last bosses can destroyed very quickly with say dual Rocket lv.2 or Laser Lv.2's which are really powerful, but relying on that is out of the question in a scoring run

His videos have been pretty useful so far even if we're using different weapons mostly. Stage 4's boss is a bit of a stumbling block for me just because it has so many attacks. I think I'm getting it down though, MMM's strategy of point blanking with the sword really helps. I've beaten it in training mode now I just need to do it properly.

Just got my Dreamcast in the mail [woooooooo], so to celebrate...

Ikaruga [DC]. Died really stupidly on the first boss twice, and then made it up to the second, and then died like an idiot. Did a few more runs, but none came close to that one.

EDIT: I was just playing with my nephew, he loves the idea of the game, but it's a bit too hard for him. He's 10 or so.

Stupid deaths all over - still need to polish some tricky areas.
From all the random waves the worst ones are the helicopters that come straight down firing aimed shots.
