Touhou and Guwange (living entities are considered organic)

The blurring of the organic and the mechanical is such a cool theme. Too bad Cronenberg never made a shmup. R-Type rules artistically-- hard to think of one I like better.

It could be called the thinking man's shmup because you can play a game of chess off to the side while waiting for your sub to get places.DjMcDougal wrote:Just curious a little off topic but what do you guys think of "In The Hunt" ?
That said, I liked it tons - enough to buy the board recently, in fact. Pretty much the pinnacle of 2D art in a scrolling shooter, certainly at its time.

In the hunt? It looks pretty nice, but I just can't play it. Some Irem games are just too hard for me, and that's one of them. Image Fight is another.

I dunno, I mean I love harder games, but In The Hunt was just too... much of a mess imo.professor ganson wrote:In the hunt? It looks pretty nice, but I just can't play it. Some Irem games are just too hard for me, and that's one of them. Image Fight is another.

Anybody know if the art staff from Crying/Bio-Hazard Battle worked on Kolibri? Some of the enemies in Kolibri are very reminiscent of BHB.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Yeah, I think that's the more important point and nicely put: it's a bit of a chaotic mess. I admire others who find it more intuitive and playable.Vyxx wrote:I dunno, I mean I love harder games, but In The Hunt was just too... much of a mess imo.professor ganson wrote:In the hunt? Re Kolibri: that's one very unique shmup, and organic in its own way. Didn't think much of it as a game, though.

It only uses mess-style graphics.
It's otherwise a great game.

I also would suggest bio hazard battle, the whole game is very organic, from the stages to the ships to the enemies.
