yeah it's ok though I think - the 'My Boyfriend Is A Pilot' karaoke was great!

some of the arts very nice though I'm not too into all the characters face design, the 'lasery' 80's sci-fi feel reminds me of MegaZone 23, which I loved.

This was mid-90s CG and they went crazy with it. Personally, I didn't like the "sharp" features on the characters. Still, I did get used to them and weren't a total bother for the rest of the series. In spite of that, I think it has a decent dog fight and the denouement is pretty memorable. The music for this is also really good. I think I might still have two or three albums from this series 8)

Mutsumi Inomata... kind of a cross between Utatane Hiroyuki and CLAMP 8)

What's interesting about Macross Plus (circa 1995) is it's considered an official Macross sequel to the events of the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross series whereas the events that take place in Macross II; Lovers Again (circa 1992), that series takes place in an alternative Macross universe & thus isn't regarded as a true Macross sequel.

Of course, Macross II was produced without official input from Studio Nue.

Macross PCB Factoid:

Only Space Fortress Macross Jamma conversions kits were distributed in the USA by Fabtek whilst the PCB sequels of Macross II: Lovers Again & Macross Plus were never properly released for the American arcades and thus remained exclusive for the Japanese game center market.

The original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross PCB released by Banpresto (circa 1992) features slightly different content compared to the loke test version of SDFM PCB (which hasn't been rom dumped yet) Even the cutscenes featured during the attract screens & between stages pay homage to the 1984 movie, SDFM: Do You Remember Love.

finished Macross Plus pretty great overall I thought, though I don't really get what the 'bad guy's motivation was, o_O

I am extremely sorry I just though as pretty much all of the people on the forum had been watching anime a lot longer than me, they would have already seen it. Apologies again :(

am watching Mobile Suit Gundam movies, I would say if you have the option, stick to the mono Jap audio track - the 5.1 version loses so much IMO, they take out loads of the analogue synth bleeps and bloops and it just feels too tinny and airy (to these ears anyway)...

Recommended: Shigurui (manga, 15 volumes).

Dark and violent samurai tale set in feudal Japan. The rivalry between its dual protagonists is developed well, the action is grounded in believable if improbably prodigious swordsmanship, and its sense of a society utterly without compassion for those without status is even more overwhelming than the pervading depravity and sickeningly detailed gore. Not safe for little children!

The anime (12 episodes) is an admirably close adaptation of the first third or so, with a notably imposing soundtrack. One could watch it and then continue on with the manga without missing anything. I preferred just starting (over) from Volume 1, since the manga moves at a quicker pace.

One thing I don't understand is the "DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack"? What the hell is that about? You buy one of these stupid things as a Blu-Ray, but it also includes the same thing on DVD... what the hell :?: :!:

Some people (me) don't have blu-ray players. Then again I haven't bought a DVD in... I don't even remember when.. :? (checks) According to Amazon.com, the last DVD i bought was a skate video - Alien Workshop "Mindfield" in early 2009.

It's just wasteful to me as a consumer, but it's probably good business since the companies can jack up the prices for normal DVDs because now they include some worthless Blu-Ray copy of the same thing.

Just finished re-watching the first 9 episodes of Ranma 1/2. Man, it ain't nostalgia talkin' here: for all the cheezy and corny on-going jokes the show had and it was an overly-long series (numbering at over 150 episodes!), it is way better than most of the trash being made nowadays and from the past 15 years. It's great to see hand-drawn stuff and no CG 8)

Makai Toshi Shinjuku, it's been a while since i've watched an OVA. I don't know why I don't watch more of them considering they tend to not be bogged down with filler that plagues so many TV animes.

Yeah it was a good anime. I originally thought it was something else and was pleasantly surprised. Speaking of that movie maybe someone could tell me the name of it. It's the demon movie which starts with the protagonist having sex with a women who turns into a spider demon.

Finished Fancy Lala this weekend and, I have to say, it had its ups and downs. First and foremost, this is definitely a show made for little girls, so anyone outside of that demographic would have to be an otaku collectr0 since these are Bandai releases that aren't in print anymore (they're really cheep!). Second, I initially compared it to Jem and, yes, it does have that music and transformation element, but, now that I think about it, this series is more akin to Penny Marshall's Big, starring Tom Hanks 8)

I was kinda bummed this was only 24 episodes 'cause I felt the show needed a little more character development. It woulda added to the emotional investment one is supposed to have when the show ends.

For anyone who enjoyed NGE, is Campus Apocalypse worth reading?

I'm looking to start something new, preferably not too long (fewer than 20 volumes), any recommendations? I haven't read much, so it doesn't have to be obscure. Forgive me for not scouring the whole thread, it's 54 pages long and most of it seems to be mainly TV related anyway.

I watched Wicked City, It had a lot more sex than I remembered, Not that i'm complaining :) as it was for the most part tastefully done and there was still a good story.

Fuck yeah. I stopped reading it on volume 11, I have to get the rest.

I'm liking I am a hero a lot. First volume starts as a slice of life, then shit gets really serious.

haha I suppose a lot of people will disagree with this, but in the last week I'm just after rewatching all the Evangelion Episodes 1-26 and End Of Evangelion, and to be honest I actually enjoyed it even more the second time round...

NGE was the first anime I watched properly (apart from say Wicked City and Akira with friends during the mid 90's 'Manga' western anime boom), this was only a year ago or so (yep, Im that n00b), so I had nothing to compare it to when I watched it. Now I've watched a fair bit since, I still really like it, ok some of the psycho babble gets a bit too much sometimes, but the genuinely otherworldly feel of certain parts are just incredible. I'm talking mainly of all the berserker scenes, there is a real feel of uncontrolled violence in those scenes IMO. The cinematography/scene design is beautiful too, and while yes a LOT of cels are re-used, it never felt annoying to me. Also not watching the english dub this time around made Shinji way less whiney (though Misato's gravelly voice is way cooler in the eng dub).

So anyway yeah, I'm an unashamed massive Evangelion fan :p

on episode 63 of LOTGH - so far there hasn't been what I would discern as any drop in quality throughout, pretty amazing for such a long series - Rosenritters are the coolest fuckers ever!

Sentou Yousei Yukikaze. Fighter Jets (by Ace Combat3/Evangelion's Ikuto Yamashita) and awesome Dogfights + Gay relationships (is like an Airforce ver. of Gundam)

Joshiraku. by Zetsubou Sensei creator Koji Kumeta. Stupid girls talking about stupid things in a really stupid place, stupidly lovely.
