Unknown Arcade Game...
Unknown Arcade Game...
This has haunted me for quite some time now…
I think it was around late 80’s (1988-90) I was young so time didn’t really matter back then…
I vaguely remember a platform heroic-fantasy action game that looked & played like Magic Sword, Black Tiger/Dragon (Capcom). You controlled a warrior & your primary weapon would gradually power up like in Raiden & you could also fire secondary projectiles at the same time, like the AXE & dagger from CastleVania.. There was also another secondary weapon, which was fired from a flying probe-thing hovering over your head (like in 3-Wonders/Midnight Wanderers)
If memory serves me right, you also had a dragon companion like in Alisia Dragoon. (But I could be mistaken)
Once fully powered up, you could fire lots of projectiles at the same time.
The levels I remember took place in dark dungeons with platforms & I remember some prison cells with some poor chaps in them, which you could rescue.
Any help remembering the name of this game, will redeem me from the fiery pits of gaming hell.

It sounds sort of like Magic Sword, but I'm not sure that's it...
EDIT: Doh, you already mentioned that...

No.
It's not Astyanax, Rastan Saga I & II either...
What other heroic-Fantasy-Action platform games are there for the Arcades?

Yes, that's what it is. One of the very worst games I have ever had the displeasure to know. Still, it's Castlevania, so I keep the rom on my computer.

No, KOD & KORT are perspective beat em ups.
The one I'm talking about is 2D platform.
If we forget about the part about the prisoners, is there a game that fits the description?

None of these games mantioned, are what I'm looking for...
I'll try Magic Sword & Black Tiger since they're a closer match to what I remember, but some how they just don't feel right...

Jaleco's Legend of Makai from 1988 looks like a possible match. It seems fairly similar to Black Tiger from the screen shots. May this be it?
