PCB sound settings question

Post by Xeno »

I was wondering if you can change both background music and sound effects volume levels in CAVE pcb games?

Some arcade PCBs were quite generous with adjusting the volume for both the BGM and sound effects seperately like with the Taito FX-1B based Raystorm PCB on a stereo capable candy cab setup. (And vice versa for the PSX console version of Raystorm to adjust the volume of the BGM & sound effects seperately).

There were multiple audio levels to adjust with the Taito G-Net & even the Taito Type X mobo as well. Just bring up the Operator's Menu screen prompts and change the audio levels to your liking. Easy as pie.

As for Cave PCBs, by increasing or decreasing the volume will effect both the BGM tunes & the sound effects together at the same time. There aren't any seperate volume adjustments for BGM and sound effects though. That's another consideration for Cave to implement in their next shmup PCB offering (assuming if it is a stereo capable board from the get-go). I'm surprised that the current Cave SH-3 powered PCBs aren't stereo capable to begin with (with the exception of the Deathsmiles X2 PCB which was stereo capable from the get-go).

Not exactly what you're looking for, but related:

Mushihime-tama IIRC when you start a game you can set the volume for Reko's voice.

I was pretty sure it was one of the options ... though my moonspeak is very limited:

Around the 12s mark, are those three options not for the voice volume? Are the characters not like "small" "medium" and "large"? (Which I guess in context would be more accuractely translated as "low" "middle" and "high")

^This is true, you can set Reco's voice to 3 different levels in game while the soundFX and music are changed via the volume pot
