For those who are continuing to experience problems, a download of 0.7 with all of the files attached in one easy-to-figure package.
Compiled this morning and confirmed not to have any other bugs than the "high score" thing that you're bringing up, BP.
I've... never heard of this added high score business. I'll look closer at it.
As for the kindergartners, they're supposed to be a relative step up anyway :V . If you aim for the boy, however, the girl's extra attacks are easier.

I think that's the one he tried and was unable to fix for reasons unknown (I'm guessing some kind of weirdness with GMFMODSimple, GMOSSE has done it sometimes after a run of a game on some machines too but I've never been able to consistently replicate it - on the other hand its damn consistent in this case so who knows).Cagar wrote:Make the explosions white like they were before

I thought the explosions were fine to be honest. Maybe compromise and go for a lighter orange (closer to white but still coloured)?

Yeah, I haven't figured out how to do that. I have an idea, but I need to decide if my way of fixing it would be annoying to people. It involves adding a lag time for the retry option. Like, you hit retry, and then it actually retries in like two seconds.
In the mean time:

Namely, the evaluation screen displays an average framerate, and you can play at the equivalent of a 90FPS Touhou.
Go to the config menu and hit "turbo mode," and then wonder why exactly Stage 2 on Standard is completely freaking impossible.

I didn't find the framerate jump so bad, died at the same place on Standard Mode with Broomstick Woman (the Preschoolers). Did feel a lot smoother.
Next time you make a game best keep it at 60 FPS like normal games please.
As for the lag time, that's actually probably for the best, in fact maybe add a slight lag time to responsiveness for the Continue screen as well so no one hits it by accident.

Apologies for the silence, but there hasn't been much progress in wake of the Big Hiatus, which will be drawing to a close as soon as I can update my version of Game Maker.
In the meantime, I've added almost the whole of the soundtrack to Soundcloud, up to and including the final boss theme.

I have been playing the game here and there, though. It's kind of hard because my computer jacks up the loading time to like 30 seconds :<
I managed to get 540,000,000 the other day :V

Progress has resumed!
Currently working on Stage 5-1 and that weird highscore adding bug. It doesn't affect the actual highscore table, just the display, which is weird.
I got the display to read High Score 1,200,000,000 hahaha
That means my new highscsore is 770,000,000! But I made this game, so that's invalid.
Hiking up my Game Maker to version 8.1 seems to have caused the enemies to spit out stars freaking everywhere. I'll have to fix that, eventually.

I guess I can't be assed to make actual progress, so I've gone and done a couple minor changes.
Such as this:

Hoping to get a not-stock background in sometime soon.
As for backgrounds in general, those should exist eventually.
Bullets also generate some weird flash effect upon creation. It's mostly cosmetic, but it does help out in telling you where bullets are being produced, say, in the fourth bosses' Diastima: Mysterious Nebula attack that spawns purple bullets in a continuous random loopy ring around the player.
There is definitely more points getting thrown around in the new version. I'll have to find out why.
Oh, and I posted this on Shmup-Dev too :V

Regarding planet/space-related pictures I can whip up something with Universe (the program I use) if you like, it's pretty neat for stuff like starfields and planets. 
I did see your Shmup-Dev thread (good stuff btw) and plan to make my existence known there as well. It seems like just the ideal place for us devs if ever this place finally gets all the crap from Shmups Chat pouring in.

First pass at new planet texture (I started at 640x480, hope you don't mind it too much...editing in GM8.1 shouldn't be an issue providing you use the Remove Colour tool correctly).

Also did the space background because your stars look a bit pixelly too.

I haven't left yet!
It's definitely taken a backseat to Chaos Weapon, but I do enjoy popping in once a week or so to do minor stuff, such as entire stages.
