From that Inafune interview when he left Capcom:
KI: Saying this will make publishers angry with me, but publishers themselves are forcing developers into becoming subcontractors. "For this amount of money, finishing by this deadline," and so on, and even more than quality, "Aim for this number of sales," is what's being pushed.
Basically, it's all in the hands of the publishers, who obviously are only in for the money.

People are going be a bit wary of whatever big fighter Capcom releases in the future, as a result of this sour experience. Some bridges have been burned here, IMHO.

Specineff: Holy crap; you're still here?! Been a long time, man! I was thinking the other day the same thing about how Capcom is either likely or should make the content free while they have the chance or it could have a really negative effect on the sales performance of their next fighter (even if it's really good)...

Recently a Capcom rep talked about this whole on-disk DLC business and said they're re-evaluating this practice for the future. But in the process they let everyone know that Dragon's Dogma will come with on-disk DLC.
Hey guys,

We've been getting several questions, here and elsewhere about the future of on-disc DLC.

We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the process of re-evaluating how such additional game content is delivered in the future. As this process has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content is delivered.

One such title is Dragon’s Dogma, where the decision to include some additional (but not all planned additional) game content for the game on disc was made at the beginning of the game’s development cycle as at the time this was determined to be the most efficient way of ensuring certain content was made available. Owners of Dragon’s Dogma will be able to further their gameplay experience with the release of additional quests, weapons and other items in the months following the game going on sale.

Dragon’s Dogma’s post-launch content will extend the lifespan of a title that already offers around 30-40 hours of gameplay by following the main story thread, but if a player was to complete all the side quests Dragon’s Dogma ships with, that increases to around 100 hours. Players will also be able to add to the stock of 100s of weapons and 1,000s of customization options to create not only their ideally equipped, but also their most elaborately designed character.

Just wanted people to know in advance the whys, wherefores and where we're going in the future. You are being heard. Thanks.

Please allow me to translate:
"You protested, but we'll continue to nickle and dime you anyway, suckers! 'Cause no matter what we do, you'll continue to buy our games and DLC anyway. Now bend over and take it like the little bitches you are."

DLC is normal practice for companies now. Stop bitching about it already(it won't go away anytime soon). Either buy the game and deal with it, or protest it by not buying the game at all.

Even better: I don't buy consumer-butt-rape games AND I talk about it, in hopes of my example inspiring others to start sticking to their principles as well.

This is what I do :)

And I agree.... we all need to voice our opinions or else Publishers like Capcom will continue to pull this BS.

I'd also like to mention an upcoming game that I feel DLC is being done right. Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 Final Shodown. Game is going to cost 15$ and there is day one DLC for costumes day 1. I'm not a big fan of day 1 DLC but considering the game only cost 15$ and is complete with all characters and stages I say no problem to that.

DLC is not a must have it's just added extras that do not break the game unlike Street Fighter X Tekken where all characters aren't included along with all gems.

I doubt gamers would have problems with this type of DLC because the DLC does not force gamers to purchase it to stay updated. I mean for only 15$ instead of the usual 59.99$ or in Capcom's case 69.99$ you get a complete game. They have to make money somehow if the game is only 15$.

Can't wait to spend $30 on items so I can play dress up with my VF characters (no, I'm not being sarcastic). 8)

Word is Dragon's Dogma will also have on disc DLC. I personally don't have a problem with this, but given how much it pisses everyone off I'm sure they'll drop the idea of putting it on the disc, even if they've already developed it.

Exactly.

It'll just go back to what it was before. Have finished stuff be put online for download onto your hd later on, rather than lock it on disc. Same shit, but more inconvenient for everyone.
