So, Hi, i'm a newbie here, found the boards here from a post on gamefaqs about my newest find, Castle Shikigami 2 for PS2, which if i remember correctly is Mobile Light Force 2...
Well, i'm a huge fan of shmups. I've been playing them for years, but never realy knew what they were.
Now i know what they are.. they're games you play when you have friends over so they can stare at you while you're weaving in and out of bullets...
The most awesome comment i've ever gotten was OH MY GOD YOU ARE NOT HUMAN....
came from my best friend while watching me play CS2.
i'm WAY too tired to remember what games i've played, besides the gradius/nemesis/r-types thunder spirits, and lots and lots of others...
So basically this is my hello, nice ta meetcha all!
(BTW, i've had this username LONG before i heard of the game Mars Matrix... i heard of it say.... tonight? hehe...)
Hello all!

Well, traditional televisions and monitors have a 4:3 horizontal:vertical ratio; in the arcades vertical shooters are displayed on monitors with a 3:4 aspect ratio so there is extra vertical room. Tate mode is included on many Japanese vert console ports, allowing you to rotate your television to maintain the arcade resolution. However, there are games like Mars Matrix, Radiant Silvergun, Soukyugurentai, and the Giga Wings, which, while vertical, are designed to be displayed on a monitor with a horizontal orientation; you can call those verizontals.

Welcome!
Just a few words about the Mobile Light Forces, as they are an odd bunch:
Mobile Light Force (PSX) is the US release of Gunird and Mibile Light Force 2 is the US release of Shikigami no Shiro, both ported by XS Games. (Castle Shikigami 2 is the US release of its sequel, Shikigami no Shiro 2, also done by XS)
Exactly why these totally unrelated games have similar names and identical cover art is... well, just weird and a lot of people criticise the MLFs as poor ports of ok games. XS slight redeemed themselves with Castle Shikigami 2 as it was pretty decent.
I'm pretty sure the above is accurate; if it's not, I'm sure somebody will be quick to correct me.

Yeah, you have the pronounciation right. As you've probably deduced, it's Japanese, and while I'm not sure of the exact meaning, it should be something to the effect of standing up tall. If you do plan on rotating your television, I'd advise you to search threads in the hardware forum before doing so because you can do permanent damage to your TV if you're not careful.

I knew about the origins, and just thought it was, for lack of a better word, silly as to why XS games chose to change the names of the games, i would have left them the same, but translated (castle shikigami). Makes more sense that way, besides making it easier to find the sequels....snap monkey wrote:Welcome!
