I seem to recall he was wearing a tee-shirt from a Greek football team when he told us (okay me) off for sitting on the pool table? Or CHI could just get some pillow time with him so we can find out more about him.

You're all wrong, he's from Norwich.
Things got fixed last night - we even managed to shift the pool table over. Maybe he was back off holiday and wanted to feel useful.

All that stuff fixed up! Wicked!
Aliquantic wrote:You had use around five bombs (possibly six or as many as seven) by that point though, which goes against the loop requirement of no more than 7 bombs/deaths combined... it'd be funny to no-miss and still not loop, though! (The loop is a pain if you don't have a solid Maximum bonus too, of course, though the US one may be manageable)
Yep - I know I still have a long, long way to go! But I've never got that far before on one life, and I was bomb spamming a bit because I wasn't planning on hitting the second loop. I never dreamed of getting anywhere near the second loop before the meet, but that run made me think that maybe I have it in my ability range. I could certainly avoid using a few of those bombs at patterns where I just bomb as standard (a certain Boos 3 pattern, immediately after getting the hidden extend etc.). Still - lots to learn!

I want to see you loop next time I'm in Casino Spadgy! I'm pretty sure you're not very far from looping, and could do it on any run where you do well on the final boss.

Tap dodging is key to a lot of Progear patterns where you've bombed when I saw you play, like the stage 4 boss final, the planes before the stage 5 boss, or that pattern that kept killing you on the stage 5 boss. The only place I don't know how to reliably dodge myself is the stage 5 start (oh god on rank 6 on the JP version)... no idea what to do there other than bomb or pray :|

Will be useful! Thanks Icarus.

I'll be down Thursday this week.

And nice work on Akai Katana's PAL leaderboards Dan76. Doesn't look like anybody will be troubling you for a while!

I'm tempted to get Akai Katana now, just for the sake of rivalry :P And we both love horis (and each other) and are roughly matched in terms of skills...

Or I could keep aiming to beat his score in DSMBL. Decisions...

So you have to cut off people's legs before you can love them? That's harsh :|

spadgy was the real spadgy, I could tell by how he played one pretty good credit then kept cocking it up afterwards.

The Engineer left a box of cool free stuff down there this evening. MX7 I think you would have liked the big box full of weird ancient computer junk.

I got a NES Zapper, spadgy got a wireless NES stick with micro-switches (???), and JDE got an Amstrad CPC.

Remember to say yes when she asks if you want a happy ending.

I got your text Chi btw. I know you're busy mate, so no worries, just let me know when you're free. Good luck at the wedding!

Wow, I should have come down last night! Though I really don't have any any more space for crazy ancient computer stuff, so it's probably for the best...

HZT: (and anyone else who may be interested!) there's a promising looking noise/doom night at The Buffalo Bar tonight (right next to Highbury and Islington station, just opposite The Garage). £5 on the door, a bunch of bands playing. Going with my flatmates. Starts at 8. You should come! http://www.buffalobar.co.uk/listing/201 ... -presents/

Yeah! It's wicked to have. It's one of these Camerica Freedom ones (pretty stiff and shitty, but still microswitched!) (mine is not boxed):

And I got what I consider an even better Microswitched NES stick from the same haul; a Speed King, which I used to have for Sega/Amiga, but never realised existed for NES. It has insanely short thrown and engage, and is cradled in the palm of the hands (much like my favourite stick ever; the Amiga Cheetah Bug):

And CHI - good luck with the wedding and the speech!

I wish it weren't so true, but you're dead right!

Oh, and the engineer told me and Dan he is half Spanish and haf Welsh, though he's clearly talking bullshit...

I won't be down this week; I'm in Newcastle now and Sweden for the rest of the week...

Does anyone know how i can get in touch with the owner of casino arcade? Im thinking of opening an arcade in Leeds (with a heavy focus on old school style games- shmups and fighters primarily) and given that Casino is the only successful (or at least semi- successful) arcade ive come across for yonks, I wouldnt mind getting some advice off the guy on the viability of it all. Id rather stay away from gambling machines tbh but I realize that they probably make most of their money that way. Anyone else who has any suggestions or advice please feel free to chip in!

Oh and to the person holding that commodore 64 drive ^^^^ wanna sell me that? Finding it hard to get hold of one for a reasonable price! :)

Also- maybe should have mentioned, I cant just pop in and try and speak to someone as i'm totes Yorkshire based and my LDN trips are shamefully infrequent!

Hate to sound too negative but Casino isn't really successful... it loses rather than makes money and is only still open because the owner (John Stergides of Electrocoin, if you want to find how to contact him I guess the Electrocoin website would be a good start) has been in arcades since the beginning and doesn't want to see it close, and apparently makes enough money from his other concerns to afford it.

I didn't take the drive with me, it was too big (and it's not like I'd actually use it for anything). If it's still there tomorrow I'll pick it up for you.

 thats a bit depressing. So I guess the viability of opening such a place up in Leeds is pretty much non-existent. i was thinking some of Cafe/ Arcade hybrid but everything Ive seen regarding the opening of VG arcades seems to be pretty soberingly negative. Damn our passions being so niche!

Cheers RE: the drive though! Get in touch if you manage to pick it up. :)

Maybe if you were opening a really great cafe anyway and just happened to stick a couple of cabs in there (:

Someone opened an arcade-ish sort of thing in Potter's Bar just outside London, I don't know much about it but I think basically you pay to get in and use the space/machines (and probably have to "book" in advance) rather than it being somewhere you walk into and put money in the machines, and again I think he doesn't exactly need to make money from it.
