I wouldn't call myself a hardcore scoreplayer but the ones that clicked with me were Exceed 3rd BP, DFK 1.5 Strong, Crimson Clover normal mode (I forget what its really called), Mars Matrix.

- Muchi Muchi Pork

If you haven't played this game, you need to pick it up NOW. The first time I ever played it, I sat at my friends cab for 6 hours. On the drive home, I was calling Japanese game shops looking to buy one. Getting your chain up to 10k is super easy, then you need to hang on to it - blasting away at huge groups of enemies while making the PCB crawl is one of the most satisfying scoring systems in a shooter.

- Deathsmiles

While some people think its too easy, or lame because of the loli-esque design - this title remains one of my favorite shooters ever. If you're a Castlevania fan, this game's music and atmosphere really pull you in. The scoring system is rather easy to get into for beginners and complex enough to find experts looking for every last point. Using the bomb recharge trick really boosts your scoring potential.

- Akai Katana

I love playing Shin mode on the X360, but the PCB is really becoming one of my favorites to play. Quickly pull in energy, get close to an enemy spouting bullets, reflect a few then pop him and watch the gold gather around your ship. Get the hit meter climbing and let enemy fire pass though your gold to increase its size - I'm still learning this game and having a blast doing so. Very happy I gave it a second chance.

The scoring is a little too complex for my tastes and the music makes me want to hurl. Definitely enjoyed the original a lot more. I will agree the patterns are nice, although the final pattern of the final boss completely rapes my shit.
I've actually sunk quite a bit of time into the game and like the scoring a lot. The only thing that annoys the hell out of me is the huge end-game bonus.

What's your gamer tag? I'd like to view some of your replays... Just to see how you handle that game.

LMFAO You know you're hardcore when the biggest issue is end game bonus!

I need to give MMP another chance, I stopped playing the port after getting the initial 1.01 1-All, that just barely scratched the surface. That stage 4 boss is the main discouraging factor, maybe my skills have improved though since last playing it.

Yeah, I need to get back to MMP as well. When I first got the game, I lost my desire to go for a good score because I didn't like the excessive boss milking. But I've been watching some videos lately, and I guess I had a change of heart somewhere because it actually looks really fun now. There are just way too many awesome games to play. With the 360 ports I'm nearly set for life. Just need to get a handful of my favorite pcb's and call it a done deal.

I would like to add, Pink Sweets Arrange mode

Timingtripod40, but really your time would be better spent watching Yora's leaderboard replay or YOZ's on Youtube. They're a better representation of how the game is played at a high level as I kind of took a half-assed approach to the scoring as I got tired of choking at the final boss and went for as much end-game bonus as I could.
LMFAO You know you're hardcore when the biggest issue is end game bonus!
I don't have a problem with end-game bonus but given how much depth there is in the stage scoring Espgaluda's 2's is really annoying. The WR holder, for example got 1/6 of his score from no-missing the game. I'm not saying he didn't deserve as that definitely isn't an easy thing to do but as a lower level player it's very annoying to throw out a run just because I didn't do well against the final boss. I think Futari God mode had the right idea by only making it really big if you pull of a Spiritual Larsa clear. I'll stop there as this isn't the grievances thread.

Favorite scoring types: Medal chaining, with some enemies dropping medals increasing in value (not so much medal spamming, where every enemy barfs medals of preset value). Lock on multipliers.

Least favorite: Boss milking. Color chaining.

I'm another fan of the scoring in Futari 1.5 Original and Ketsui, because their systems are so simple to understand and execute. I hate the scoring in Espgaluda II because with even the tiniest mistake (like pressing a button a millisecond too late) you lose the potential for a ridiculous amount of points, and that gets frustrating really quickly.
So, are we expected to turn our TV on its side?!

EspGaluda II for me personally. Always loved the scoring system in the original, and with Esp II I felt they expanded it into a complex, but addicting system.

Yes, one of the (of not THE) best arrange modes out there.

I have never played Bakraid, but isn't this mode supposed to be reminiscent of it?

This thread had me Porkin all night. Fucking love that game, even if I do suck at it.

Yeah Deathsmiles I really like playing for score as well. The difficulty is really well-balanced, and the system is pretty simple to grasp initially, and gets as complicated as you want it to be.

And although I've never tried playing for score, I like the huge numbers in Gigawing

Progear. Cancelling lots of bullets just to stay alive and the streaming trick in particular are very satisfying. UFO is great too, if you want to score a lot you pretty much have to forget about scoring based extends. And of course Psikyo games, Sengoku Blade, Dragon Blaze and Gunbird in particular since they are the most representative of their style.

Galaxy Force 2 is pretty fun - but not as fun as Omega Boost by a long shot.

Caravan style shooters as well, and the Raiden Fighters series. Plenty more games I like and even try to score in, but those are the consistent hits with me.

I was reading through this thread and wondering how come no one's posted Raiden Fighters yet, then Ed Oscuro and nash87 came and saved the day.

It's a love/hate relationship for me. Being able to score heaps is very satisfying it gets me further in stage progression too (especially so in JET). Having a bad run leaves me running my mouth fouler than the sewers.

Ketsui is just so...balanced. There are a few quirks (i.e. C+A killing large enemies and stunning bosses with C), but they hardly detract.

I'd have to say I love MileStone's scoring systems in general, but in particular Chaos Field. I like how the bullet chaining system is multiplicative so you feel like you're accomplishing more and more as you get it higher and higher, and I also like that's it's very forgiving. If you mess up keeping it running with a wing layer, you can always use a lock-on attack to reset the chain meter instantly, provided you have at least one meta stock.
