Snow Bros iOS

Post by Marc »

Just thought i'd give a heads up, spotted this earlier, picked it up and it's a decent port. Looks lovely and sharp, controls ok and apparently it's licensed?

Just nice to see the Toaplan logo on a (sort of) new release tbh.

Does Taito own the license now?

Hate to say it, but both the Snow Bros. and Out Zone games seem to be unlicensed.

Snow Bros. is published by some no-name Korean outfit. Out Zone Reloaded has terrible sprite edits for graphics and makes no references to the original game.

Unlicensed? I thought they were the guys scheduled to be releasing 4-5 Toaplan games over the next few years.

There's two different publishers putting them out. I won't believe they're licensed until I see proof.

Ummm.... the start up screen says Toaplan, licensed to isac entertainment, at least for Snow Bros. They could be lying, but ya...

I don't put near enough playtime into iOS games to take the plunge for Outzone until I know the controls are good. They should make a 1 level demo.

Yikes, an app for a few dollars on a device that cost hundreds.

Outzone iOS controls suck (needs a dual sticks maybe) and it has delay from the second the game starts...

Which you probably won't see. Tatsuya Umehara apparently dug quite deep to find out who the fuck had the licenses and as far as he could tell "nobody". However, nobody wants to risk that.

Outzone doesn't look bad, but in the video I watched I could tell the player was having issues with the controls. I have issues with the controls in the original so that's no surprise, but these appear touch screen related. The visuals are nice. 5 bucks US is a little pricey for an old game but I'd bite if I wasn't a cheapskate.

Snow Bros doesn't look horrible either. Not sure what I think about the updated visuals but it seems like they cared about delivering a proper package. The animations look the same and the re-imagined tunes are great. Still, not sure about the control but for .99 it's a steal.

I can't afford to spend money on little iPhone games these days. When I do, my first purchases will be the two Time Crisis games.

It's all relative. After shelling out £0.59 for Snow Bros, £2.99 seems a bit of a hike for a port from the same dev and era, especially as I suspected the controls for this wouldn't translate that well. Kind of like how Taito's prices are a joke in comparison to Cave's.

If you suspect the game is unlicensed/bootleg/etc. your best bet is to just report it to Apple.

I wouldn't bother, if they aren't official then I can't see whoever holds the right bothering to convert them. Also, rating the player out of 3 stars on each level has added a horribly addictive side to what was already a great game.

Sadly, Outzone is fucking dreadful. It controls via a fixed d-pad and it kills the entire game. Movement is only 4-way, was that the case on the original? Still, it's inspired me to add the original to my play list if nothing else, the visuals still look fantastic.

Outzone arcade did indeed have 8-way movement. Sounds like a total shit port if that's the case.

I saw the trailer for Outzone Reloaded. Looks like a complete train wreck to me, and that's putting it kindly.
