I'm just really curious as to how this game stacks up against Cotton Original and Cotton 100%; which I really love!

Thanks, I got that one, but it's actually Cotton Boomerang, not Cotton 2.crithit5000 wrote:There's a vid marked as just 'Cotton' over at ikaruga.co.uk...

@Gaijin-please let me know if you do still have that video, or, if not, if it's still on Hameko.

It's definitely not on Hameko anymore. Checking this thread though, it appears it was a Cotton Boomerang 1CC... not Cotton 2. Sry.

2 was sort of the "turning point" in the series, imo...while Original and 100% were fairly "textbook" shooters, Cotton 2 went for something completely different, gameplay-wise; for one thing, it introduced "command shots" (which are used by making street fighter-esque control pad motions) in addition to your "normal" shots, and also introduced the "sealing" system; if you finish off an enemy with a command shot, it's "sealed" in a ball of energy, and from there you can either pick it up and throw it at another enemy (which will then be sealed in turn, and then IT can be thrown at other enemies, to form a chain) or shoot it, which will cause a life-restoring item to form. There are other elements too, but those are the main features; the graphics are very nice, and there's also a "remix" mode if you buy the Saturn port, but be aware, to do well at the game you NEED to be able to do the command motions well, because your regular shot is fairly weak (you can eventually unlock the ability to set some command shots to one button though). As such, it demands that you be willing to play the game a bit differently than most other shmups. Boomerang, imo, made the game mor accessible, and is my personal favorite of the series, but 2 is nice too, not to mention cheaper to buy and easier to find.
Hopefully that'll at least provide an overview for you...comparing it to the first 2 Cottons is kinda tough, they're almost like 2 different series, in a lot of ways.
