Yeah, same old sh*t. Same old enemies, same old weapons, same old gameplay. Will it kill them to draw new sprites? Geezuz.

"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

It will just make them go bankrupt. No, heh, I can't care about this game because all of the original members of Metal Slug are long gone.
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Metal Slug 3 is the best of the series imo.
The gameplay, the remixed audio tracks & the multiple routes, rox!

I still haven't completed MS5 ... I ought to one of these days.

Is Sammy the company that's making the Atomiswave hardware by the way?

I don't really like Metal Slug in general, but the first four stages of MS3 are pretty enjoyable, I must admit.

Then level 5 hits.

Pacing? What's that? Hey, tossing in a terrible and overdrawn vertical shooter section will make the player fall asleep from boredom? Too bad, we'll put it in anyway! When you ignore the setpieces the level design really isn't all that interesting? Well, nobody will notice anyway.

Seriously, level 5 of MS3 is a great example of ambition overtaking common sense. It's cool once, just for how audacious it is, but I can't bring myself to slog through it again ever.

The Vertical Shooter stage in MS3 isn't that long, so it can't get boring really...
It doens't look bad either.

Sorry I lost you here...
How is "ambition overtaking common sense" in this case??

Like I said, the final level throws pacing to the winds in favor of just cramming in everything they wanted. It would have worked far better to split up the level into two or three levels instead, but as it exists now, it drags on and on and on and on. It's ambitious as hell, but common sense would dictate that you don't make the last level of a game about the same length as the rest of the game combined. It completely throws everything off.

But hey, most people seem to love it, so whatever.

Looks pretty good. Could be better, could be worse. Always glad to see a new slug in any case. I agree with the fact that the game could use some new sprites. Dreamcast should've hosted at least ONE slug game. Ah well. Looks decent on the Atomiswave anyway. (meaning it could look the same on the Dreamcast pretty much...)

Have to agree, why can't they make something new instead of Metal Slug/Samurai Shodown 6

Metal Slug is flawed from the first game anyways, the scoring requires way too much milking...

I agree with this. Personally, I think the first 4 levels should have been cut (they're passable individually, but feel arbitrary and irrelevant compared to what they're leading up to), and level 5 made the focus of the whole game, from the ground up. It'd still require heavy editing, of course, but I think it would have given the game a stronger overall identity and better playability.

As it stands, its implementation just feels like a parody of what I don't like about Metal Slug in the first place. Too long, too dragged out, too redundant...and fueled by gimmicks and visual gags. Of course, the main reason people seem to play the series is for the sights, sounds, and superficial event surprises, so it's no wonder MS3 is the fan-favorite.

After hearing about how bad MS4 was, I lost interest in the series, and nothing since has really stimulated me to take a look again.

I really liked 4 and 5.
They seemed to play more like #1 to me than the other.
