MCA Adam Yauch Dead at 47
MCA Adam Yauch Dead at 47
Man, my day just got a whole lot more depressing. Huge fan of both the Beastie Boys and Yauch's film work. The article doesn't state the cause, but I assume he succumbed to his cancer. Truly a great lost for music.

goddammit.
HSCpt2 was a pretty good way to go out.

Technically HSC Pt. 1 will be his swan song. To my knowledge all the tracks have been recorded for a while.DJ Incompetent wrote:goddammit.

I'm kind of disappointed that I never got a chance to see the Beastie Boys in concert. Was really hoping I could after Yauch got better. Now that will never happen. Like Freddy Mercury with Queen, I fear the bad can't survive without MCA.

I'm glad this will make Whitney Huston and Adele go away.
Then I'll be painfully reminded that everybody only thinks they did Fight For Your Right.
I wish I saw them live too. I'm probably too young to deserve to go to that tho. They were a big gen x thing.

while tbh I didn't even really like Paul's Boutique, I was obsessed with Licensed To Ill and She's On It single and I actually had the 'Rock Hard' 12" too when I was a young un, it is most depressing when someone who seemed so energetic and full of life then is now dead - I feel very old - RIP
Re: MCA Adam Yauch Dead at 48
Beastie Boys were an enormous influence on me and an inspiration. RIP MCA.

Wishful thinking. Pretty sure they picked her to do the new Bond theme. Black Keys woulda been better.
The album that got me into the Beasties was Ill Communication. Such a great disc, I wore that thing out when I was a teen and memorized every word. Flute Loop is still my favorite.

Worst Golden Week ever. Pissing rain and now this? One of these bands that I haven't listened to ritualistically in ages but I bust out some of their stuff every now and again, and pick up new stuff, and it's always awesome!

Depressing. And makes me feel really old too.
I saw them live in 1995 (Ill Communication tour). Definitely one of the most memorable shows I've been to!

ugh, that's bad news. Got into their music as a teen skate punk and it all started with Ill Communications. Still listen to their music from time to time when driving my car to work. Intergalactic is a great track with a good woofer in the car

Re: MCA Adam Yauch Dead at 47
Sad to see another piece of real music from my childhood go away, the Beastie Boys and Run DMC were hip hop bands that even if you didn't listen to a whole lot of hip hop, well those two would draw you in for awhile.
The lyrics were clean, the rhymes made sense, and they didn't try to be someone they weren't, their music spoke for how they were, original.
And now both groups have lost key members, this is a sad day indeed.
R.I.P. MCA, we'll miss you man.

I saw this! They were on the Lollapalooza tour in the US... and they fucking rocked. A Tribe Called Quest was also on this tour, and Q-Tip came out and played Get It Together (as on the album) when I saw the show in Minnesota, but unfortunately not my home show in Texas. Amazing I can remember that shit after all the shit I was doing back then.CIT wrote:Depressing. And makes me feel really old too.

I'll throw this one out there, since the Intergalactic video is apparently in MCA's directing credits: anyone know if the footage filmed in Shinjuku station was guerrilla or permitted? Japanese are particularly assholish when it comes to issuing filming permits (basically they don't do it in Tokyo full stop), but not as bad as you'd think when actually stopping something as long as you're not making too big of a commotion.

Jammed out some Brass Monkey last night in his honor.
A Hardcore gamers reaction to the Lack of Kinect games. Apparently i could of played Dodonpachi with it if i beat a entirely in Japanese Visual Novel piece of shit game called Instant Brain
Re: MCA Adam Yauch Dead at 47
If I remember right it's was all no permit, I was looking for my Beastie Boys Anthology DVD last night and sadly couldn't find it. They talk about how they filmed it in the extras. Super bummed about this. Payed my respects by putting on my Solid Gold Hits t shirt, going to White Castle, and jamming License to Ill.GaijinPunch wrote:I'll throw this one out there, since the Intergalactic video is apparently in MCA's directing credits: anyone know if the footage filmed in Shinjuku station was guerrilla or permitted? Man, 47 is way too young to die. He only had two decades on me, but turned things (back) upside down in that time. Good run!
It reminds me that Google recently featured Keith Haring on a Google doodle...I'd like to see a MCA-themed one up.

Unfortunately not governed by the people though. I was recently watching Until the End of the World (Really Long Edition) and there's a scene (I think in both versions) in Omotesando of all places, in front of the United Nations College building. Had to have been done at about 4AM.Street belong to the people, and to guerrilla film. Just the way I like it!

Beastie Boys did a spot on Chappelle's Show. The show ended before it was run. The video for it came out today http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... cW_uze0s40

It's pretty annoying that he was dead less than two days before Facebook got covered in his life quote images. It's like someone with MSpaint gets paid to sit in front of Google watching the obituaries. I must have missed all that MCA wisdom people were posting before he bit it
