Must-Have Japanese 360 Titles? (Non-Shmups)
Must-Have Japanese 360 Titles? (Non-Shmups)
I recently purchased a Japanese 360 for the sole purpose of being able to own/play the only Cave games missing from my Cave collection: Ketsui, DDP DOJ, and the soon-to-be-released Mushi HD. I'm wondering what other Japanese-exclusive, non-shmup games I might be missing out on that others find unique/amazing...
Re: Must-Have Japanese 360 Titles? (Non-Shmups)
Senko no Ronde DUO (shmup related but not completely)
Re: Must-Have Japanese 360 Titles? (Non-Shmups)
The problem first and foremost is figuring what else is JP Xbox exclusive. There isn't really much to choose from.
Gal*Gun is good for a laugh and an alright rail shooter, but it's presentation puts people off and it's not the same without a light gun.
TGM ACE is about the closest you'll get to a home port of TGM these days. It's not the same experience, but it's god damn fun and challenging in it's own right.
That's it for non-shmups i own.

guess I should have said, "not available for US consoles." Doesn't necessarily have to be Japan-only. Of course, NTSC-J Asia releases seem to be the same games that we have in the US...njiska wrote:The problem first and foremost is figuring what else is JP Xbox exclusive.

There's The Idolm@ster, a surprising fun idol creation simulator. There's a lot of depth to it, and despite the frightening amount of loli-esque characters, it's really tame stuff. Just expect lots of high pitched wailing.

Don't forget the Dream Club games

I like Onechanbara Z
it's mindless hack & slash so IDK if that's your thing

Thanks for all of the suggestions! As for the post by xbl0x180, the idea of my wife catching me feeding sausages (?) to underage girls is pretty hilarious, but I'm not sure I'll go that route.

I've heard TGM Ace "is not Tetris", from a competitive player and according to this.
Oneechanbara is fun, but a mediocre series. The 2006 game had a US version, with upgraded graphics. I'd recommend the US version. The recent one is pretty buggy, I'd wait for a reprint.
Idolm@ster is great, but will be difficult to pick up without any Japanese knowledge, especially the first game. You could probably mess around in Live For You I guess.
Senko DUO is worth it, just don't pay full price. Or expect online versus. It's a hit or miss series.
Dream Club is awful, it's basically an imitation of Idolm@ster. Also, language barrier.
Gal*Gun is pretty bad, the main producer even cheated Microsoft regulations and bashed them before the game's release, leading to some pre-order cancellations.
Most of the other games are either localized in some form, or have a language barrier. And of course, my guide, which I actually just updated.

TGM ace is most definitely tetris. it just isn't TGM3. it's still worth picking up though.Elixir wrote:I've heard TGM Ace "is not Tetris"

If the language barrier isn't a problem Super Robot Wars XO and Steins;Gate are pretty good.
Re: Must-Have Japanese 360 Titles? (Non-Shmups)
Shmups are all you need.

We had this thread once before: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25651
A handful of new stuff has come out in the meantime, though. Also, I stand by what I said about TGM Ace.

Kind of going with Gus on this one. I can't find much else worth owning (in my opinion) other than the 3 or so Japan-only shmups I wanted. You know what though? They're worth the price of the NTSC-J console. My wife doesn't think so, but man is she WRONG.Gus wrote:Shmups are all you need.

Tell your wife she isn't worth the price of a J360... especially if she does not work.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

NICE, Strider!!! Let me add she's worthless if you're a nice guy and she takes you for granted and treats you like crap!Strider77 wrote:Tell your wife she isn't worth the price of a J360... especially if she does not work.

Actually, she's pretty f#%$ng cool. She makes me (good) dinner everyday, keeps the fridge stocked (including alcohol), keeps the home clean, and, last week, I caught her trying out Daioujou, which blew my mindGateofThunderforceIII wrote:NICE, Strider!!! Seriously though, any other suggestions?
Re: Must-Have Japanese 360 Titles? (Non-Shmups)
Senko no Ronde DUO and Idolm@ster (not Live For You) are both must-haves, in my eyes.
