It's always been the case that US game covers generally suck compared to their Japanese counterparts. At least, in the early consoles. I don't know about today. And, yes, American gamers tend to trash their games, so be really wary of buying used games unless you've inspected them and played them before buying 8)

lmao. That Hagane went for a cool $700 USD. I got a brand new SFC copy for £40 a few months back and didn't think twice about it...

...but of course IT WAS NEVER SEALED. D: *candles blow out, curtains flutter, flowers wilt and die instantaneously*

Is that a fact? I could use that in a future video. :D

Ah, no - I was referring to the SFC version which is (of course!) bereft of cellophane even in an unopened state. Shameful, beneath any sealed game connoisseur! I'd laugh if that SNES copy wasn't sealed due to some Blockbuster distribution variable, as long as nobody got hurt when the $700 Man found out.

As I used to be fond of saying, KEEP YOUR GAMES SEALED

You gotta love the Japanese attitude against shoplifting (even if it exists, which it does) to mean that things shouldn't be covered in useless shinies to be discarded later. And yeah, my copy of Hagane was far beyond what I'd have expected from a US copy, in terms of quality.

If this was the actual cart that they used in the movie "The Wizard", it might be worth $27,000.

I think it's actually the year after? The Wizard was released in 1989 so I guess it couldn't be.

I'd think the one used in The Wizard would be a movie prop, which would make it worthless 8)

Is / ought problem: Just because it is listed on eBay at $27,000...

I recall that some years back Gold NWCs were being listed for thousands of dollars.

With hindsight, the guys that argued with me that it was smart to buy overpriced game shit (NWCs, PAL Kizuna Encounters, etc. although those had a checkered history due to the possibility of more cropping up later) for investment knew that they weren't overestimating the collective gullibility and amounts of disposable income held by rabid game collectors.

However, I always looked at it from the standpoint of an investor: First, I don't buy anything I don't see the value of (I could also mention that we all lost a huge opportunity to buy into Apple Corporation years ago, and even five years ago the stock was much lower than it is now). Secondly, I shy away from investing in anything that seems obviously like the product of a bubble (like Apple stock or gold painted NES cartridges with holes in them): The stakes are much higher, and if the bubble bursts (or fraud destroys your investment, as could happen with video games at any time), you are screwed. I would much rather enjoy obscure things that don't cost all that much and which will at least keep their value (and, who knows, could even possibly be promoted as the Next Big Thing for purposes of making a sale, as savvy art investors / collectors do).

Super Nintendo Cartridge Display bid up to over $600: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140739135321

Would much rather have something like this for that kind of cash: www.ebay.com/itm/130682335532

Total agreement with you on that one. The first auction looks like the box slots were made out of unsanded wood, at least from this distance, and there is that nasty stray wire apparently poking out of the top of the sign.

A LESSON FOR US ALL

Post by BIL »

Got a sealed Satakore copy of Mobile Suit Gundam for the Saturn today. It was cheap and the used one was only like £5 less so I thought why not? I love Mecha Sidescrollers™ and I love new games! HERE'S WHY NOT, ASSHOLE: When I opened it the jewel case hub was pulverised. Like an actual Gundam had been doing bouncing cock pushups on it for the past fifteen years. Not the first time either - WTF is with sealed mecha sidescrollers for the Saturn? Luckily the disc was secure and unscratched so I swap dat muddafucka with a blank case and proceed to get my Valken knockoff on, shazam! ~_~

But let it be a warning (assuming you require the storage media inside your sealed packages to work). Leave the sealed game playing to we brave few. ;3

No joke. If I have something of value to put on the bay, now I take nice hi-res photos so the buyer knows what the crap they are buying.

Speaking of which:
Rendering Ranger bid up to over $1600: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170813447622

Here's some other zingers that sold over the weekend. Keep in mind that none of these are sealed. Super shape, but not sealed:
Whirlo SNES PAL: $2800
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170819248650

Megaman X3 PAL: $1800
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170819249023

Megaman X2 PAL: $1100
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170819248736

I was watching those PAL MM games because I was curious what something legitimately hard to come by would fetch in this insane collector's market. For those who don't know, the SNES PAL Megaman games are by far the most valuable out of all the officially released Megaman games for any region. Even around 7 years ago, I recall a sealed X3 going for over $1k. Very impressive for the time before this stadium events nonsense.

man i hate scammers like this, they photograph a whole collection of expensive stuff and then somewhere hidden in a wall of badly written text it states "only one game is included", just as bad as the retards trying to scam people with "only picture of item included" and other crap.. :(

Wow, in this one, it says "SEALED" in the listing title, and then in the description:
BRAND NEW SEALED IN SHRINKWRAP OPENED ONLY ON 1 SIDE
I'm sorry, it's either sealed or it's not. There's no "only partially opened". And then:
<!UNPLAYED - ONLY TESTED WORKS PERFECTLY!>
BY SOME GAMES;
ARE THE FLYERS +NINTENDO WHITE PAPER +ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP etc.. BONUS FROM NTSC GAMES
And also the text keeps getting bigger as he keeps adding things to the description

10k yen and counting for a Recca Pure repro. The description mentions that it was made overseas, but I wonder if the bidders know it's not legit.

*** I didn't relize this thread existed, and started one. Oops! Sorry, Undamned! I'm here now :) ***

I must have woke up in an alternate dimension.

I stumbled on THIS on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bubble-Bobble-P ... 432wt_1396

$20,000 USD

Sealed Bubble Bobble 2 US for the NES.

I.Do.Not.Understand.

I know there is a *small* niche of sealed game collectors, but REALLY!?

The same guy is selling a sealed Mass Effect for....get this....seriously....ready?
$699USD

Mind = Blown

(I get that there are collectors out there....but I must be missing something.)
