Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
What kind of run times are you getting with your E-Revo? I'm guessing it's the 1:10 version you have?
I took my 1:16 out a few times, but I'm really disappointed with the battery life out of those tiny packs. I might sell it soon and get something which takes sub-C sized packs.
I did also pick up a Tamiya M-05 Pro kit this week. There are two local scenes that race and I hope to meet them soon. It might be a week or two before I have the body done and painted, because damn I hate masking and painting these polycarbonate shells. I don't like using the stickers on the outside, so I do most of the detailing with masking tape :\
Also, not really a 'just bought' thing, but I was digging through some of my old stuff and I found a box of 20+ Hitec servo motors. Not really good ones, mostly HS-475HB which are usable as backup steering servo in a pinch, and a handful of HS-322HD which will be pretty much useless for electric RC :p

Mine's a 1/16 model too (My 1/10 is nitro), and I find a single NiMH pack is good for about 15-20 minutes of run time. I usually use two with the parallel connector, which is good for about 30-40 minutes or so, and I'll probably get some extra packs soon. I haven't made the jump to LiPo batteries yet, mostly due to the expense of getting a charger for them, and the fact that they seem really finicky to deal with.
I've been watching some YouTube reviews on the Savage XS Flux, and it looks interesting and takes full-size packs, but I haven't been all that impressed with HPI's designs in general. Maybe if I'm feeling really ambitious I might try to pick one up to mess with a bit (and so my GF can have something to use when we're out bashing,) but overall I get the impression the E-Revo VXL is probably going to be more to my liking.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Yeah I'm thinking about the Savage XS Flux.
Hmm... With my 1:16, I'm getting only about 4 minutes of hard running on a single 1200 NiMH, and around 5 minutes out of a single 1600mAh NiMH. Double if running in parallel. Is something wrong or do the batteries need breaking in? If that's all it is, then I might keep the car. That's running full throttle on really nasty surface like grass or wood chip playground, the life is a bit better on pavement. So maybe I'm running on the wrong kind of terrain too, but still I expected a bit more battery life.

That's definitely on the low side for those. I'm not a battery expert (far from it) but I've been charging mine on a peak detecting charger at 1 amp, and that's been working reasonably well for me. I think Traxxas generally recommends charging at fairly low amps (1.2 amps for fastest charging, and 0.3 amps for longest overall battery life.)gct wrote:Yeah I'm thinking about the Savage XS Flux.

Edit: Another thought on this: Does the ESC have LiPo mode enabled? I believe that cuts off power to the motor when the batteries fall below a certain voltage in order to prevent overdischarging. I don't think it's supposed to be used with NiMH batteries, so that could be something to check.

Picked up this 36" CRT (with 2x VGA input, in-built Bose sound system, internal power management, and front-panel + remote degauss controls - plus it's "cart") from forum member caldwert.
The image quality is tip-top, especially with a VGA Dreamcast or Xbox connected. The front panel dagauss is feckin' sweet too...not to mention the bumpin'-ass Bose sub. This things sounds BOSS!
Still figuring out what to do with it though, but for now it makes a great HOTD2 setup

That's a bad ass score Matskat. Easy access degauss, multiple VGA in, good sound and a nice stand to move it around (must be heavy!). Cool gear like that never seems to be in my neck of the woods.
Some stuff that came in yesterday and today. Most notable thing imho is this crazy little 8bit famicom to NES controller y-adapter. Came from Venezuela and took forever to get to me.

Thanks for the suggestion. From what I can tell, LVC is disabled, and the batteries are definitely dumping - performance becomes very slow instead of completely stopping like what I expect would happen if LiPo cutoff was active. I'm also using a peak detecting NiMH charger at 1A which is the minimum on that charger. I guess I will give this thing a few more cycles and find some nicer place to drive it, since I have quite overspent lately.Vexorg wrote:Another thought on this: Does the ESC have LiPo mode enabled? My loot from the Retro Game Fair that was here in Gothenburg yesterday. Everything to the left of the NES games I won by placing 3rd in the 1943: The Battle of Midway high score competition there. The winner was none other than DMC, while Dragoforce failed to make the top three.

(no, I don't have a ROB, but...)
What I really wanted to find was a copy of Shantae for GBC, but no such luck.

First row is best row. I haven't had a luck finding a good (enough?) condition SA myself. I didn't realize the 6 Golden Coins and Wario games on GB came in a silvery box...I don't think I knew any GB games came in a silvery box.

Nice Fire Pro pickup. I wish Spike would make a new one someday (that XBLA abortion doesn't count).

When's the meet, bitch?
(Oh and Joe T. when you get tired of that big ass thing, warn-a-brother...I'll put her right next to your old Aero)
--------------Now for my newest shit...
Sega Saturn 4in1 Cart (from Racketboy)
and
Sega Saturn S-video cables
PuLiRuLa w/ Spinecard
Darius Gaiden w/ Spinecard
Sexy Parodius w/ Spinecard
from Amazon...I had no idea......
I'm super amped to get my Saturn going. I bought it back on '05 with no games...considered modding, but got distracted. So it's sat in a box since '05 and sat in a box at the record store I found it in for who knows how long. It boots and works (thanks to a copy of Virtua Cop that my old neighbor had...of all things...he owned no Saturn)
Excited!
Pics upon arrival, hopefully it all arrive throughout this week and the following...or 2 ....or 3 weeks. Who knows? (shipping from Japan, you know how it be)

Awesome shit! That game is hard as hell to find in non-sunbleached condition. Make sure to store it in a dark place, otherwise it'll be pink in no time.BIL wrote:

Yeah, I got it from jap-sai.com / Arcade Gear and they mentioned they'd had a really hard time tracking one down in good shape (had originally asked about it back in Feb). Glad to finally have a copy in my game cabinet (with the solid wood door!). ^_^
Game is fantastic of course... Natsume really got into the "arcade game for home console" groove with this, KK Tsukiyozoshi, Wild Guns and Ninja Warriors Again.

I'm definitely considering both Mikami and the SFC ver of Spanky's Quest. The one I'd really like to track down is Shatterhand (NES) - I was originally going to go with the FC version Solbrain, but it turns out Shatterhand was actually the original (?) and I like its style more anyway. Great sidescroller, reminds me of FC Batman with the weighty jump physics, short-range melee attacks and wall grappling. Kage / Shadow of the Ninja and Final Mission / S.C.A.T. (bahaha) look pretty neat too.

Great choices. They're all classics for the retro fan. I actually have all of those both in japanese and us format CIB. Well worth tracking down imho. I actually prefer Solbrain being a fan of old school sentai shows.BIL wrote:I'm definitely considering both Mikami and the SFC ver of Spanky's Quest.
