The bomb graze meter is absent in 0.6- it'll appear in 0.8.
It appears underneath the bomb stock icons- it's a little sliver of a bar, but it's there, and noticeably increases when you graze a lot.
After you get your fourth bomb from it, it disappears, however. Alongside that, you can now measure your graze using a little green counter that appears underneath the multiplier when you are not chaining items.

I should be able to get to Masa... right...? I mean, I did make the game :]
I've only cleared it's final attack without bombing or dying once, however, out of the dozen or so times I've seen it. It's too panic-inducing :I

OH WAIT CHAINING ITEMS

well, you know how the pitch gets higher if you collect lots of items at once?
I tied that to scoring :V
If you can get it to the highest pitch (or, when, I should say, it's totally easy to), then the graze counter will be replaced with a view of what your item multiplier is. It ranges from x1 to x2.
It's a combo/chain thing, so it only locks for 0.5 second before it begins to fall :D

High scores are now ridiculous with it in place, so I'm probably going to heighten the extend requirements by 50%.
I mean, I'm pulling 180m by the end of what currently exists of 4-1, compared to "oh, I broke 100m, that's something special!"

4-1, by the way, is slightly difficult, but the enemies drop ridiculous amounts of multiplier items.
You can raise the multiplier by six in the first minute alone, meaning that the theoretical maximum multiplier is now x40.

That, added with the fact that stars were raised to 2,500 base points rather than 2,000, coupled with the item chaining mechanic, means that stars could potentially be worth 200,000 points each by the end of 4-1. Provided you don't die.

Nice! Sounds a little complex but if it ties in well it shouldn't be too difficult. Basic Donpachi style chaining, actually surviving and grazing to get bombs in a nutshell - sounds good to me. :D

It all boils down to "destroy enemies, collect items quickly, don't die" :P

Anyway, 4-1 is very close to done.
It's taken so long, because, well, the stage portion worked out to a little over 1:40 >_<

I tried to get there without dying, but that didn't work out >_>

I game over'd to Aurora Getter (spoiler alert: 4-1 boss) with 171 million points, as well as the third bomb extend.
Why'd I game over? Attacks that require faith in hitboxes D:

I was about to ask what you meant, and then I went and pulled 302,000,000 points >_>
Here's the lovely part- I died on the sweeping laser bit of 4-1 (which is done now as well) and lost x11 from my multiplier- I still got it up to x46 by the end of the stage D:

Just wait until you can get to the item chaining business! :D

That was the Advanced mode :V
I was supposed to save this for when people got there, but eh.
It runs from 1-1 to 4-2 and then Stage 5 has three parts.
And then you beat the game! :D

If you count them individually, then there's 11 stages in total.

I've been trying to fix that to no avail, actually.
I don't understand, either, since Lunacy Star 1 didn't have that problem and it used the small hitbox rather than the whole ship graphic for item collection.
If you got close to an item in 1, you'd get that item whether or not you wanted to.

I might copy the data over wholesale to fix it.

No-death runs are prolly the best way to score this time around.

The fourth boss will be a shorter fight than the third, but the bosses' attacks are not synchronized, so you could defeat one of the tactics on the first boss and the second will continue to use the attack they were on.

When you defeat one boss, the one you don't defeat gets extra attacks that you only get to see when you let them live :V

And finally, Stage 4 on the whole seems to be very very graze-y.
It's kind of ridiculous, actually, because you can get 1,500 graze on the midboss and fourth boss alone.

Nothing on 0.8, but Stage 4 is wholly completed now and there's been a slew of changes, such as difficulty editing and swapping the focus/unfocus subweapons on the Gear Axis, as well as a Practice Mode existing.

An intermediate version 0.7 is actually due within a few days.
Rather than a full release, I'll just put out an updated .EXE for people to drop into their folders.

Highscores from 0.6 will not carry over, due to changed values for scores and in enemy worth and drops, and in a new score handling system that eliminates GM's high number inaccuracy, and allows for scores in excess of several trillion.

I also don't recall if you can graze for bomb extends in 0.6. *shrug

Grazing appears to do nothing in v0.6.

Good to hear an update will be out soon with the new interface. Is the system of accepting scores into the trillions really necessary though? I thought I was playing Lunacy Star Second, not Giga Wing Generations. :lol:

Haha!

I've just added that item chaining system since 0.6, so the shift won't be THAT extreme.
I've noticed about a ~40-60% increase in points with it.

Also, trillions are not necessary. That was just a point.
You'd have to work pretty damn hard to get over 1 or 2 billion, and that involves chaining virtually everything from Stage 1-1 to Stage 5-3 with the multiplier capped at x99.99 by the end. (Multiplier orbs turn into point items at max multiplier!)

(Stars are now worth 2,500 points; times 199.98 (99 x 2 item chain bonus) is 499,950)

A no-death run ending at 4-2 would have perhaps x80 in multiplier and 500,000,000 points. I died once, ended with x62, and got 488 mil, for instance.

...Still higher score margins than the original.

As for graze, yes, I've added that as a means to collect extra bombs. I don't think you can get the 8,000 Graze one yet, though.

And that's about it...
I mean, the only other business would be difficulty edits...

I'll upload it when I fix the issue with the new score handler...

0.7 features access up through Stage 4-2.
Using Practice Mode does allow you to enter Stages 5-1 and 5-2, but they'll end immediately, have only MIDI music, and all that stuff
(Stage 5-3 is only accessible through beating Stage 5-2, and you're not allowed to advance stages in Practice, sooooooo)

I haven't pestered my graphics artist about this game yet :3
Someone's also working on stage backgrounds, although they're pretty random
I just got the backgrounds to the bonus level :V
So the idea is not to expect graphical sexiness for a while...

Here's the final update before the Big Hiatus, because starting now, the project will be tabled for the 64Digits RPG competition.

As you may have noticed, the graphics are still the same.

This is more or less an "intermediate" release, seeing as there's not an awful lot of new things, but here is what's different:

Easier to get extra lives
Easier difficulty period
Extra bomb bonuses
A continues system (You can try again after you game over?! What?!)
A new score handling system that supports scores up to 100 trillion
Stage 4-1, 4-2, and the fourth boss
Edits to the player scripts, such as damage and homing shots when the Gear Axis focuses

I like the idea that the explosions in a bullet hell game are what makes it seem like a clusterfuck.

It only toggles when you exceed 100m and try to save it.
Also, that 400m looked like 4b in the results screen because lol digits

Yeah I got up to the twin Broomstick Kindergarten kids and Game Over'd. This was on Standard mode I believe which I saw was a tad easier than it used to be (a good change, the difficulty feels a lot more smooth in terms of rise now). I know you didn't do anything to the existing music but for some reason it sounded even better when I played it today. Really liking the composition work there, but the tank boss (third stage? Masagara?) music was a bit lower in volume compared to the rest of the tracks.

The explosions are a bit attention catching and could be a visibility issue. I'd say maybe tone down the colours/alpha and if they're not already set the depth to be below bullets/player stuff.

The random creation of lasers and explosion/enemy stuff was a bit wacky but I suppose once backgrounds and stuff are implemented it might make a little more sense.

Other than that, it's looking even better now. Any chance of reimplementing the fullscreen toggle? The options menu is fine for how it shows on default but sometimes (like when I played) I wanted to put it into a window when paused etc.

I am so strapped for time at the moment.
I am so sorry. I didn't implement the screenshot key, but I can put that in. Due to really really odd circumstances at school (that is to say exams and testing), I only get about thirty minutes to do programming things today, and it turned out that the highscore bug that ate so much of my time was something hilariously stupid.

Regardless, it is now fixed, and you can save highscores over 100,000,000 points again.

There's another stupid bug that triggers when you have an exact multiple of 100,000,000 as your score, but it's ridiculously unlikely that that will ever happen.

For those of you who have 0.7, a link to just the new .exe is here.

The regular 0.7 link works too.

Thank you about the music as well. I was afraid that the Stage 4 themes were some of the weaker ones :<

Yeah, the music is all fine besides the volume drop at the tank. Good luck with the exams and stuff, it's mostly the same situation over here with me too.

Links updated! This time, it's actually Windows 7 compatible, high score bug fixed, and you cannot continue past the end of the game anymore :V

Just downloaded this earlier today and found that the registered high score that shows when you play in-game is actually adding (or shows it is) the score you're making in your current run to the existing high score. :P

Man those twins are impossible....
