So will the Special Mode Stage 2 Infinite Popcorns glitch get patched out eventually or is it gonna stay as a Challenge like:
" Reduce rank before destroying Gem&Ini in order to proceed OR counterstop the game in Stage 2"?
Kinda fucks the Special leaderboard unless you stipulate that scores for Stage 2 won't be accepted. I guess the Special leaderboard's gonna look hilarious anyway but it's a hoot to play

Am I the only one thinking that the increased movement speed ruins the game?

All you need to beat Doom in this Arrange, is 2 lives, 3 bombs and you are good to go, in a safe bet.

Alright, v1.1 is going to happen. Changelist, most likely:
  • Probably attempt to fix the special mode stage 2 glitch
  • Rebalance damage
  • Add some new things that should fix some miscellaneous issues
  • Fix all the enemy AI
  • Freeze manual rank in-between stages

I said rebalance, which doesn't necessarily mean nerf; it means make it more balanced for the current state :-)

I played a few credits now and I'm creeping up on my first mil (700k so far stg 3). I'm sort of with cagar regarding damage, so if you do tweak it I wouldn't do anything drastic. At the moment the risk/reward is quite finely balanced during boss fights on A+C, since I want them to go down faster but I know I'm going to be cranking up the rank and will have to endure a few seconds of dangerous blitzing to get by.

I actually think it works quite well. If you make bosses more resilient to A+C you may make it unnecessarily tougher, and lord knows, it's tough already. :)

I don't like the idea of long drawn out boss battles using only C shot just to keep from getting swamped.

Had the pleasure of playing a few credits of this wonderful mode today. Made it to stage 4 with Pantzer Jaeger despite my handicap so it's definitely easier. Lots of nice PGM sprite flicker on the PCB. I really love the palette changes, the quirky option stuff etc (very fun to do between stages!) and I look forward to the 1.1 release. We tried to find the hidden mode but I'm not sure if it works the same on PCB as in MAME? Enabling DIP 3 but nothing, so I'm guessing that's only one piece of that puzzle?

3rd unused dip; 8th actual dip (7, if you do 0 indexing). Hence my stupid tease in the other thread :-P

As far as I can tell this is perfect so far. I have no complaints regarding the damage.

Is air shot still viable in this? Is anyone doing it?

Most of what I've been doing is holding A+C the whole stage and releasing A to reset the 5-chain.

Upcoming 1.5 (previously 1.1) will feature increased difficulty and various other rebalances. Thanks Jaimers for making these issues much more apparent :D

Well I just spent an hour with it and I honestly can't see any need for increased difficulty. Unless I'm completely missing a trick, it's tough as nails when playing for score (much tougher than regular Ketsui) since essentially you spend 95% of the time at max rank. Tactical bombing and laser combinations on bosses are a strategy in itself, just to figure out how to spend as little time as possible going up against their attacks.

I think you've already balanced the game in quite a fresh and smart way. If you want to play for survival, then sure, you can ignore the laser almost entirely, but when you constantly have A+C pressed down you're constantly dicing with death.

I hope this 1.5 isn't just to bend to the whims of the elite, since you could end up ostracising a lot of players.

thanx for empi for bringing the rom over, we had a good chuckle with thisone, what a crazy mode, VERY well made (even tho it makes the game bug out sometimes, really pushes the hardware!).
alot easier than the original and alot quicker, you zoom around the screen frantically in thisone, wierd feeling for ketsui.

superb effort trap15!
this ROM is a must have for all you ketsui owners out there.
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

You got a bit lucky on how Doom deployed his last pattern but seriously that was hardcore.

You especially handled the missile pattern like a pro.

Gonna have to get this working after work today!

Ok, I must be missing a trick here then. I'll not play it again until I can get it on a ROM and play it in the cab, rather than this awkward saturn pad setup, and see if it's easier then.

Tried this without ever putting a hand at vanilla Ketsui before(unless that first time I booted the rom with the .bak file in the zip file counts). Pretty awesome, just love manual rank and the new color palette makes the original look bad whenever I play the original or back label, oh and being able to screw up and sometimes survive due to that flipping bit issue on the bullets too.
And then, regarding back label mode, was it supposed not to play like arrange? First thing I thought when I saw the back option formation was that it would be quite useful in this mode, but then it plays just like normal Ketsui with a few glitches.

The scoring mechanics still give me trouble, but on with not getting raped at stage 3 anymore before anything else.

Most of the absurdly difficult barrages are avoidable if you control rank a bit, you can bomb without anything but a slight score penalty, your movement speed is fast enough to trivialize some annoying patterns, and your shot is fucking OP. That said I am having quite a bit of fun with it.

"Back label" is pretty much what resulted the first week or so that Ketsui was emulated. Not meant to be a serious mode, just a funny glitch that people decided to play through for kicks :D

I just noticed on the vid that he seems to be using laser without increasing the rank - mine's always at max even during bosses. How do you do that?

Tried this today. Pretty fun! I like the option changing.

Playing this also confirmed something once again.

That being good god I suck at Ketsui.
