I have to say I don't really like the increased damage when holding A+C. It makes many parts way too easy and I don't remember it behaving this way in the development version I tried.

But other than that it's a really fun game. I really like the whole rank thing.

The addition of the additional damage on A+C was to make a reason to increase rank during bosses. Judging by the reactions though, this might not have been a great idea. I might remove it, or tone it down in a 1.1 release (which it seems I'll end up doing, heh). DFKBL also technically dealt more damage with A+C, and Daifukketsui definitely did.

Yes, the Back and Rotate options are supposed to be worthless, just like they are in Garegga :-P

It's a nice idea but I feel some big stage enemies (end of 2, start of 5) die so quickly you're easier off doing them at max rank A+C than with rank control. I tested an earlier version without that damage buff and stage 5 in that was so brutal I mostly had to just stick to using the shot which meant bad score.

Apparently DOOM isn't invincible during bombs and still takes damage from your shot. Not sure if this was intentional or not but DOOM seems to be very easy in arrange. Maybe you could make DOOM more resilient to your shot in a future version -- at least so that you don't speed through the battle and you damage it at a similar pace to regular Ketsui DOOM.

I personally feel like A+C does too much damage, but not enough to benefit the fact of fighting bosses at high rank. You can simply just tap C while holding A to get more damage but stay at low rank.

I feel like there should be a bigger benefit during boss fights if you have max rank. Maybe a per-frame point gain or how DFK BL does it, way more points.

So basically, maybe nerf the damage A+C does, add a benefit to having max rank during bosses. Also fix the tank AI. But I really like what you have done. :D

EDIT: I found a glitch where the ships after the stage 5 mid boss kept coming. It was like a fucking shit storm of bullets everywhere. They stopped when that big guy during the descent swooped in.

I'm going to take a quick guess and say that it's caused by the way I handle the loop-difficulty thing, and so you need to have rank up high for it to engage.

"it" is referring to the swarm of enemies after the stage 5 midboss. I'm pretty sure that's the cause, but I'll have to experiment.

For the AI, it's because I actually have a higher max rank value than original, and I didn't adjust most enemies to deal with the new numbers. Fixing it is mostly a matter of going through all the enemy AI stuff (which I already have mapped out) and re-adjusting some things. Probably a couple hours minimum, a couple days max.

Holy shit what a beast. I'm going to spend weeks on this, I can tell.

So is the secret mode activated if your stage multiplier is 7777 or something? Apparently there's a mechanic in 19XX where you get an extend at a certain point if 2 of your score digits are 7s.

What version are you guys using to play this? I tried it on mame134 and mame145, both run normal Ketsui fine but tell me I'm missing roms with the patched version. No errors when patching the roms btw.

The built-in MAME GUI doesn't like modified ROMs, you'll have to run from cmd line.

I was playing special mode for the first time and got "stuck" in stage 2 after destroying the mid boss. The stage made an infinite loop and helicopters and tanks showed up nonstop. I got this after sitting there for a while (score is maxed out):

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I followed this step:

"drag your ket folder over the ketarr.app application in the osx folder"

And it created this file in the ket folder:

ketsui_v100.u38.bak

I placed the folder back in my roms folder and it only finds the three original revisions of Ketsui (2 clones) but no arrange. I'm probably missing a step, but I can't figure it out. Many thanks for the help.

Modified versions of games (like, say, the PS2 exclusive mode in Mushihime, or Ibara, or whatever), have typically been called Arrange modes, so that's why I called my stuff Arrange. The origin of using "arrange" for this is from music, where to arrange is "to adapt (a composition) for a particular style of performance by voices or instruments."

I didn't notice A+C doing more damage against bosses going from the rate of decrease on their healthbars but standard enemies certainly go down quick. Frankly I like it that way.

The Special mode is quite the lulz. A friend and I cracked up laughing when Doom went down in 10 seconds. :lol:
