Don't think I've introduced myself. Soon 38 years old, 2 daughters with girlfriend of 15 years (not her age you pervs). Never been a collector of any kind, I always spent all my hard-stolen cash at the arcades (sorry mum & dad) as consoles wont EVER have a chance when compared. Been a DJ for maybe 20 years (DJ Emphatic was around before I got Internet).

Have way too many interests too focus on gaming, that's why my presence in the High Score threads is so limited. Having a family is also hard on playing for score, but it's worth it.

Hello shmups forum. I am a young 14 years old boy and my favourite shmup is Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Mega CD. Here is a picture I drew of it:

Yes I am still a young boy. I lied about my age to register so I could find more great Mega CD shmups like Ecco the Dolphin. I am bad at shmups (after all they are impossible LOL!) but I like drawing pictures of them.

Here is a drawing of Ecco the Dolphin's second boss:

Basically the Mega CD's shooter lineup just destroyed your little minds. You don't even want to hear about Night Trap.

Hello folks! I've been lurking for some time. My love of shoot 'em ups has grown steadily to the point that I just had to join. I've been playing them since I was 6 or so - I turn 41 tomorrow! None of my gamer friends like the genre, so it will be nice to finally get to talk about it with someone. My gamertag is the same on both Xbox and PSN: Ghatanathoa. I'm really looking forward to being part of this community!

Hey everybody! Like many others, I've been lurking for quite a while and I finally decided to join the community. I've been a member of the Racketboy forums for a few years now and I know some of the other members are regulars on here as well (hence why I joined 8) ). I play all genres, but shmups tend to be my most played.

Playing a ton of Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 and Espgaluda II right now. I love me some Psikyo and Raizing as well! I can't wait to try and get up on some hi-score threads, although I have this funny feeling it's going to take me a long time to be a worthy competitor.

hey all.

popped my posting cherry discussing hit-boxes whilst drinking and playing Guwange the other night lol so i figure i should now take the appropriate first step and do the intro.

im in MI, suburbs of Detroit. not really sure how much of a "scene" there is here but it would be cool to chat with locals and ill check out the section for meets too.

im about to be 30. grew up gaming.

i dont consider myself a "retro" gamer, but i have always been behind the curve, so to speak. it started with fleshing out my NES collection as i got older and had the money and brains to do so. i am primarily into all things nintendo and console gaming in general. thankfully, the 360 is helping revive and (re)introduce this genre!

chronology basically as follows:

-1942 and Twin Cobra are the games that are burned into my oldest memories of shumps, Life Force later as well
-playing Raiden in the arcade really made me realize and understand that it was a genre that i was enjoying
-Super R-Type brought hori play into the picture, although i am partial to vert
-ran into Ikaruga while GC collecting about 6 years ago and it reinvigorated my interest
-Deathsmiles introduced me to Cave and things have really blossomed from there

currently playing:
-Twin Cobra
-Guwange
-Einhander

recently picked up:
Gigawing
Ketsui Extra
Gradius V

see ya'll around!

Hi all,

Been lurking for a while, so I think it´s about time to join. I´m in my 30s, so I´ve been gamimg for a long time yet. The first shmup I played that I can remember is Galaxian. My all-time favorite shmup is Raiden. I´m mostly a retrogamer...Besides the Donpachi series, I don´t dig bullet-hell shooters that much. Well, I hope I can contribute somethin!

See ya!

Yo! My name is Kano (25 yrs old) and I recently became a fan of Shmups when I bought Jamestown for Steam. I know very little about old generation shoot em ups (except popular ones like Gradius, Raiden, and R-Type) and I'm starting to be aware of a crapload of games for the Xbox360 and Wii. lol I recently bought Castle of Shikigami III for the Wii and i'm really enjoying it! It's quite difficult once I get to 4-1 and beyond though. Anyway, just wanted to say what's up and that i'm pretty new to this genre. Hope to meet new people on these forums and maybe even my area! :) (Socal)

Hi,
Jambato, 20y, from France. Got into shmups five years ago with Perfect Cherry Blossom. Moslty playing dôjin games and on MAME.
I'm lurking here for a while (I don't remerber how much time), enough to know that most of you don't value sanity enough (no offense :D)
Craving danmakus, and a light, healthy aversion for horizontal shmups.
My favorite games are DDPDOJ, Gradius Gaiden, the Mushihimesama serie, Touhou 6,7 and 11, Crimzon Clover, Kenta Cho's rRootage and parsec47.
Ketsui Arrange raped me.
I'm also into FPS and RPGs, mostly the old ones (S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Deus Ex, Morrowind, F.E.A.R, Half-Life, roguelikes, Diablo II, The Witcher....)

Greetings and salutations, jive brothers and sisters.

I'm EmperorIng, and I've finally gotten around to joining this community after lurking for well almost a year, it seems.

About a year and a half ago, I picked up a used Sega Saturn, and Darius Gaiden (as well as Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Virtua Racing), and have never looked back. Darius and its many fishes made me catch the shootemup bug, and it's been a fun ride ever since.

Currently, my saturn collection of shmups looks like:

Darius II
Darius Gaiden
Galactic Attack/Rayforce
Soukyogurentai
In the Hunt
Sexy Parodius
Thunder Force V
Night Striker S [might not count!]
Galaxy Force II [same as above]
After Burner II [hey, 3d shmup right? : D ]

And I'm looking to get more! Namely, Gunbird, DonPachi, DoDonPachi, Batsugunn, Kingdom Grand Prix, and Sonic Wings Special among others. However, my money only goes so far, and there are lots of games on the Saturn I want to own!

I also stocked up on shooters for the Ps1, though not as much:

R-Types
R-Type Delta
G-Darius

I recently bought a dreamcast, and hope to get myself Mars Matrix, Gunbird 2, and a bunch of other shooters. I have more on mame.

And for the Xbox360, I just picked up a copy of Raiden IV. It's pretty darn fun. I have a few shmups on steam - namely the Gundemonium Collection, Jamestown, and Satazius.

This post and my sig might have given it away, but I love Taito's Darius series, and anything Taito pre-merger with SE (though Legend of Kage 2 is pretty good). I'd love to get DariusBurst, but I doubt I'll be able to play that on a dedicated gaming system any time soon! And while I love OGR and Darius, I think Rayforce/Galactic Attack/Layer Section is one of the greatest shootemups I've ever played, and one of my favorite games I've ever played. I don't know if that's a "controversial" opinion, but it's mine all the same (plus, I prefer horizontals to verticals - HERESY)!

I am not much a fan of bullet-hell/danmaku (touhou games, the ones I've played, are kinda dull and boring, and I like actual stages, and bosses), and psykio is usually about as "bullet crazy" as I can stand before I stop enjoying myself. Bullet curtains aren't really my thing, though some of Cave's games I would admittedly love to own and play (eg, Mushihime-sama, the later DoDonPachi games).

All the same, I'm looking forward to being a part of the community, learning some strategy tips and maybe getting some good deals on my wishlist games (when I'm not scrounging for cash or waiting for a paycheck, that is!).

I'll end with a quote from the baddest, blackest, greatest badass that ever lived:
"Ladies and gentleman, I am who I am, and if you don't like that, then confidentially, I don't give a damn."

Hello fellow shmuppers,

I've come across many an interesting thread on this site through various searches and eventually decided to join up and become a member. I'm going on 30 years old and I've been into gaming for quite some time (it all started with the NES for me). I'm a fan of many genres, but shmups are one that I return to more frequently than others. I'm a huge fan of Toaplan, Psikyo, Cave, Konami and Visco shooters. My brother and I have aspirations of opening an arcade locally, and we're always on the lookout for good shmup boards, so please feel free to let me know if you've got anything you're looking to sell.

Some of my favorites include Gradius 3, DoDonPachi and Truxton 2 to name a few. Unfortunately I've been unable to obtain PCBs of any of those games yet but the search continues...

Ha! I was thinking of inviting you to this place but I knew you'd get here sooner or later. That's quite the first impression you've made here! now that I know more about you beyond 'fellow Metroid fan who also plays shmups' (And has great taste in anime based on the Super Milk Chan avatar.) I think we'll get along great. My warmest welcomes to you! :D

I knew I'd make it here eventually but I definitely dragged my feet. I think it was seeing some really good deals in the trading section that forced me to get my butt into progear.

Thanks ;p

I've posted some here so I figure I may as well post on this introduction thread. I just got into Shmups several months ago and am more of a casual player than hardcore. To date I only own two shmups: Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 and Bullet Soul. I have a North American Xbox with US and Japanese accounts and I have no plans to purchase a Japanese Xbox 360 in the future. Aside from Shmups I play RPGs, any Halo titles, and various games depending on if the subject matter interests me. I live in the USA.

We're out here in Oklahoma City. We've only got a couple of arcades operating around the area, a Tilt (pretty much every game in there needs a monitor fix or is in need of some kind of maintenance), a Dave & Buster's (does not cater to retro gamers at all) and this local joint called Cactus Jacks (which is pretty good but lacking many titles we will get or already have). There's definitely room in the market for us as long as we find a decent location. We're going for a nice mix of mostly retro games from the 80's and 90's but we'll probably end up getting some newer titles as well (really want some of the newer Cave titles).

I come across so many boards for sale on this site that I'd love to get my hands on while performing searches I figure it was time to go ahead and become a member of this community.

Hello all,

I thought I'd 'introduce' myself, too:

I am a British Engineer who was fortunate enough to have been born at the right Time to witness the Golden-Age of Shmups.
I live in Germany because it's ace.

I play Games from my Era which are now termed as 'Retro'. I tend to collect generally but I focus on Shmups mainly.

I have the following Consoles:

NeoGeo AES
Super famicom
Megadrive
PC-Engine
Saturn
Playstation
Dreamcast

The following Home Computers:

Amiga 1200

I also have a Supergun but I only own tatsujin ou and ibara for it at this Time.

I addition to Gaming I am also working with the Megadrive as a Hobby.
I spend a fair amount of Time drawing and painting, of which I work on a Shmup Project. I am looking for assistance from Pixel and Traditional Artists with an interest in developing Shmup Artwork for a 16bit Platform.

I play a bit on my yamaha DX7 Synthesiser too but I am not very good :D

I have a strong interest in Horror and Science-Fiction Films and Books too.

always miss these threads when i start posting on a forum, but hears a "reasonably" early self intro from me

i've been gaming since i was 4 starting with the atari 2600, but stopped keeping up with console gaming after the last gen.
got into arcade stuff through a love of metal slug i can 1cc one and got 3 down to 3 credits, progressed from neo, to action platformers and a bit of pinball as well (playing the original versions of my childhood favorites - rainbow islands and pinbot in particular) and now really getting into shmups. my favorites at the minute being - donpachi, darius 2, vulgus and tokio.
