Sounds pretty damn awesome - he's actually doing orchestra recordings!

I'm in.

I was actually all for this until I saw the 75,000 requirement. Why do they bother making Kickstarter petitions with unrealistic goals?

$10,700 now. Maybe 75,000 isn't that unrealistic after all...

Given that he wants to have orchestral recordings, I understand why it's so high. I'm guessing he's just going for the cheapest he can do it and be proud of it. Personally I felt the same way as you, but since kickstarter is pretty much zero risk unless it actually gets funded, I'm happy to give it a punt - after all, if enough people think the goal is too high and don't bother pledging, it makes it that much more difficult.

It is starting to look like it's possible though, it's already verging on 15% funded!

That's what's making me cautious, actually. Not because I don't like orchestra recordings, but because orchestral arrangements really don't seem to be something Hülsbeck is particularly good at. He's a great composer when it comes to making music in a rock/pop-song kind of way, and he did some fantastic stuff in that style, but his more orchestral scores have always been a bit lacking, and the whole Symphonic Shades thing was a huge disappointment.

I'll gladly donate some money for full soundtracks of all five Turrican games with good production and mastering, though.

Exactly, I was excited when I read the thread title, and then disappointed that it was going to be something else instead. I'm sure it will be a fine album in its own right, just as this was, but it's not what I was hoping for.

I got the feeling from the kickstarter page that the orchestral stuff would be in addition to soundtracks from the five games, but it is somewhat vague. I'll send him a message through ks to find out.

Seriously?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this will hit double the requirement before its done. It's Hülsbeck after all, and the limited edition box set is fairly priced.

Ok, I sent him a question on kickstarter, saying that I knew people who were interested but unsure what exactly was being promised here.

My question:

"They are basically interested in full soundtracks of all five Turrican games with good production and mastering, but not really interested in the orchestral stuff.

Will there be full soundtracks of all five Turrican games? Will the orchestral tracks you're doing replace the originals, or will they be in addition to the standard track(I.E. will there be one symphonic version of T2 Title, or two (symphonic & original)?"

And he replied:

I'm concentrating on the 3 Amiga Turrican Games first; that's why it's initially planned as a 3 CD Box set. If the budget turns out larger at the end, I may include a 4th CD and cover some of the Console Versions (and keep in mind that most of the console track were nearly identical with the Amiga compositions). The orchestral stuff are planned as additional bonus versions - the set is really about high quality renditions of all the tracks right out of my studio! :)

Awesome!

And it's above 24% now, (more than $18,000). Nice to see how popular Huelsbeck is :D

Glad to hear that this includes all the soundtracks from the Amiga Turrican games.

The intro music in Turrican 2 is great. But this is probably my favorite :)

And it's 40% backed. I'm beginning to think that whoever owns the rights to Turrican should do a kickstarter for a new official Turrican game...

Wow, this is almost at fifty percent? Guess I might have to show some love for this too.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

This project will only be funded if at least $75,000 is pledged by Sunday Jun 3, 6:00pm EDT.
That means the goal can be exceeded by "x" amount? Holy COW!

I'm officially "sold" to using Kickstarter now.

So yeah, I'm on board. Turrican has a hell of a soundtrack. It's just too bad I can't get used to the game's actual controls. Maybe I'll try again tonight. After all, I managed to get halfway through Super Turrican at one point a good five years ago.

Think we could convince him to release a redone version of the R-Type title theme he composed?

There was one on his first album Shades. Or do you mean the C64 version?

If I could request one bonus track, it would be a redone version of the intro theme from Hollywood Poker Pro. The game itself was a miserable pile of crap, but the intro music is one of Hülsbeck's finest works.

I was in fact referring to the C64 version, though I decided to look up the Amiga version. It certainly is interesting. Though I do love Subsong 2 for being Escape from Transformers: The Movie. Seriously, how did he get away with that?

I guess back then, computer game soundtracks were just too low under the radar for being noticed by the copyright police. There's also an adaptation of the Delta Force theme in CH's Katakis soundtrack.
